…Tried out the mvgs this weekend w/my regular Supercharged thrusters.I positioned them approx.1/2" in front of the center fins on my sticks and it made a big difference in speed w/o interfering with the center fins base length.A noticable shedding of the drag around the center fin was felt too.Boy you should see the people flip out…7 fins that’s not going to work!!! Then I get the tube of the day deeper and longer than what normally could be had,and instead of going I was wrong and bite the bullet, a chunk of the pack just ignores me like it didn’t happen and I don’t exsist. My friend Steve paddled up and said, nice tube got any more of those mvgs? The rest will be history. …Mark I definately will support you cause ,the mvgs work great, and more testing to come. Thanks and I hope you find that the Superchargers work for you as well too…oh, also I included a shaping pistol grip in the packet…see the board picture page under tools.Herb
Hmmm…I just ordered some more chargers from Herb. Mark, where can I find the MVGs? Thanks Herb, for the feedback.
Herb, Great report! Are the MVGs a tumb width ahead of the center fin? Are the supercharges just outside and a thumb width of the rail fins? I’m thinking about making MVGs that will key into a Bahyne Box by cutting a slot into the front of the main fin root and sliding it in ahead of the center fin with it’s own cross pin. If it has a tab that slides into a slot in the front of the center fin root it’ll work pretty nice I think. Just rough foiled five tow-in singles. I’ll send you some photos when they’re finished out. …Yeah a thumbs width is about right.Single tow boards ? That’s cool.MVGs would definately help.Herb
Rich, I made a fin that fits in the FU box just in front of my single fin on my longboard. I really didnt feel much of a difference, maybe I should take it out now and maybe I may feel a difference. I made it out of a piece of PVC if found laying around the machine shop I work in. Have it posted in the resources http://www.swaylocks.com/resources/uploads/349337FR003jpg.
Herb & Foamdust, I’m going to try the MVGs idea on a couple of boards that are really sensitive to speed changes. I think this is the best way to get a sense for how they work. I try one board with real relaxed rocker and one with a more pronounce tail rocker. I think between the two of them I’ll be able to tell what’s going on pretty well. I just got a new board that’s a triplane hull and I’m still tring to get the thing wired. I have to say that this board is insane. I haven’t been about to put it in a situation that is too critical for it to just shoot right out of yet. The shaper said I nailed the fin set-up so I’m going to stay with it until I feel I need to take the next step. R & D is a great part of the surfing experience for me so I’ll keep you posted. Keep us posted with any new developments along these lines I’m quite interested to see how small touches like this have a measured affect on performance. Mahalo, Rich
