I would like to market my Superchargers, but there might be a legal problem with marketing the shark teeth.I use at present, the FCS box,and tab system, and I have heard of other companies using there system and getting legal complaints of copyright infringements. The last thing I need is a lawsuit…If you would like to have a set of my chargers E-MAIL ME @ I ask: at this point is shipping and handling $$$.Herb
Forgive my ignorance on this one Herb, as I have not been posting on this board for very long. I have checked out some of your shapes on the site. Are the superchargers you mention the canard type fins that are pictured on some of your boards. If so, how does this design differ from the c5 that rusty has been pushing for a while. I have made a few (c5 types) following the specs from the rusty web site and from my fcs distributor. With mixed results. I don’t if I just never quite got it dialed in, or what. I have read a lot that surfboards simply do not reach enough speed to take advantage of canard fin technology. If these shark teeth are something different, I would like to check them out. I have all the fcs jigs, and am ready to go. I am in the process of shaping a 6’6" swallow tail thruster. Also have you used MVGs (multi vortex generators) before? I think I remember you mentioning them on the BJ board a while back. There seemed to be a buzz about them for a while but now I don’t hear very much about them. Just curious.
They may look like the same thing but they are very different in design.Type in my name under ARCHIVES and you can get past statements to answer all or most of your questions…E-mail me,Herb.
Herb, there was a thread here about a month or so ago, something like “Protek fins / FCS compatibility”. some one posted that FCS had filed suit and lost. i think it was someone from ‘red-X’?? anyway, maybe this means that this hurdle has been cleared for you and others that want to market their own fins using FCS’s connection method.

I did post that I had spoken with Dave Skedeleski at the ASR tradeshow and that he told me that they had won the suit with FCS. I have no idea what the ramifications might be for other fin makers. If you do choose to investigate what it means I am sure that there are court documents available that should be reviewed by an attorney.
Herb - I’m not an attorney but I think Ramon is right. Look at all the fin manufacturers that make fins for FU boxes. As long as you’re not copying their plug design or fin designs and not using the “FCS” trade name, I would think they’d be stoked - after all, they sell more plugs right?
yeah, they sure don’t give those plugs away!
I would be very careful to check it out thoroughly. FCS has brought and won lawsuits against other fin manufacturers for exactly what you are proposing.
If someone wants point me in the right direction or provide the name of the parties to the lawsuit, I’d be glad to take a look. I’m an intellectual property lawyer and deal with this type of thing daily.

Instead of FCS, what about adjustable, Red-X Superchargers? Herb? Tom? Hmmmmm…
Instead of FCS, what about adjustable, Red-X Superchargers? Herb? Tom? > Hmmmmm… One step at a time. Herb has not even tried Red X yet and I have not tried a super charger yet. Also, the FCS single plug is kind of a good size for a shark tooth fin. Whether, the benfit of the rigidity of our box would overcome the extra mass compared to half an FCS mounting system.

Whether, the benfit of the rigidity of our box would > overcome the extra mass compared to half an FCS mounting system…I agree with Tom it’s to soon to vault it into something that would be alot of work ,and $$$$.Not to mention acceptability by the general surfing public…I am however leaning towards building more molds for a glue on type Supercharger that should be more user friendly. The down side of glue ons are: you can’t take them off or put them back on without some work and/or possible damage to the board(if done incorrectly),also the life of the glue may add a factor as to how long you keep your chargers on your board…and because of size and area pressure, the larger chargers(2" x 2" twin Superchargers) will not work(I think they will break off) …The up side of glue ons are you can put them anywhere you want and do it in a matter of minutes…any ideas? fire at will.Herb.
As a response to Herb and the possibility of glue on Superchargers: There was a company back in 1971 that had little fins you could put on that had the base of the fin really flared out(about 1\2 inch wide and about 2 inches long) that had a peel off adhesive. Really good set up. I never had one come off. Nothing beats the FCS set up except for the Red X for what you call superchargers. With the Red X you can move the “chargers” up for more drive and drawn out turns. I prefer to actually route the “chargers” into the board as I have pretty much worked out the bugs as far as exact placement and fin template. Our factory guys have a good handle on setting them for me with FCS and Red X, but I prefer to set them myself for accuracy (plus it gives me something to do). aloha Herb, tw
Perhaps you should get your own site for your propaganda…>>> I would like to market my Superchargers, but there might be a legal > problem with marketing the shark teeth.I use at present, the FCS box,and > tab system, and I have heard of other companies using there system and > getting legal complaints of copyright infringements. The last thing I need > is a lawsuit…If you would like to > have a set of my chargers E-MAIL ME @ I > ask: at this point is shipping and handling $$$.Herb

Perhaps you should get your own site for your propaganda… That’s Joe Kook the dead man!
I believe that the threts should stop. It is much to out there talking of dead guys. Maybe the simplest solution to this marketing mess is to make your OWN plug. I don,t think this shark tooth is that unique on it’s own merrit.

So, what’s w/ the marketing thread?
