Massive fly in Gloss coat GRRRRRR....

Just venting,

Checked on a gloss coat I layed down last night and a massive mossie decided to commit suicide in it. This has got to be the biggest fly I’ve seen not as big as the bee that landed in clives but a close second.

No big deal I’ll just sand it out and start over, but seriously its November these critters should be long gone by now.

Hey Woody, someone found a way to turn disaster into a logo: (photos courtesy of Stanley’s logo library)

Yeah, sorry, that’s a bummer…

Couple saves…

You can just resand and gloss the fly’s bed, then wetsand the entire board with 600 and call it a “pro finish”.

You can " " " the entire bottom, then polish.

You can " " " the fly’s bed, and try for a gloss bottom that doesn’t show the fly’s funeral parlor, hopefully joining the new patch with the existing gloss. Dats lotsa work.

I’d hang some fly strips around before I glossed again, some wet towels to rid dust, then don’t gloss until the somewhat sealed room has settled all dust before mixing any gloss resin.

Good luck, it happens even when friends come by and “check out this cool board … OOPS” !

Or, per the article on Kauai featuring our own Ambrose M. Curry III.

Drip a little resin over it, and call it part of the plan! Custom nature inspired art work to me…

no no no I got copyright on that fly!

Howzit woody, I never leave the room till a gloss kicks off just in case an insect does his thing to my gloss. I keep a long handle twizzer that i use to pick the pesky critters out of the gloss. If it’s happens just as the gloss is kicking I still pick the insect out the drop a glob of gloss resin ( left over in the cup) which fills the dent. This does leave a bump but it’s easy to sand down level and then proceed to rubbing out. If you pick it out before the gloss kick then the resin will fill in and it’s A OK.Aloha,Kokua

Just polish it in! I think this little mozzie looks quite cool on my new wood fish:

Thanks Guys,

I was just frustrated ,I I’m glad you all put pics up though so I know its not just me that this happens to.

I was tempted to leave it but I sanded it out and re-glossed it last night, got a bit of a bump but I’ll sand it down and rub it out and see how it turns out, worsed care I spens an extra hour with the sander and take it all down again, times not an issue so I’mm not worried.

going to gloss the other side tonight so hopefully better luck, I’ll take your advise and crack open a beer and stand gaurd till its kicked, hopefully have better luck this time.

If any one else has pictures of flies in the gloss I do think they look kinda cool so please post.

my japanese daughter said that mushi means insect and zenzen means slow. combine them and it means Snail…

flies are easy,

try sanding down a cat

.

DrAL, I rarely laugh out loud when I’m reading, but you got me on that one.

I own two cats, so I know what you mean. Thanks for the good laugh.

hmmm, my japanese wife & japanese mom both said zenzen in japanese basically means ‘none’ or ‘not at all’.

‘snail’ is perfectly ok with me too though

mmm my daughter sings a song which has the phrase “zenzen mushi…” its a pretty crazy language. i get orders translated by my japanese wife and then get my japanese staff that works in the factory to check them… then average the differences in translation …!

in ‘pagan’ or ‘aboriginal’ culture’s evolution

blood sacrifice has come at times to prominence.

he said yesterday or the day before

''OH OH OH STOP DONT DO THAT"

‘didnt youor scoutmaster tell you not to carve toward your self?’’

just then the fresh utility blade drew into the flesh of my right thumb.

I replied ‘‘the tahitians had respect for blood sacrifice’’

‘‘No project is successful until a little blood is included’’’

the fact that an organism

insect et al has included itself in the process is a blessing.

the years and waves invested and spent onshore

will surely overlook the presence of a fly track

and only the person who looks closely enough will

see the evidence of a life sacrifice in this board

in the ocean. The fly spirit as it were will have

an indelible effect on the performance of this

board . It will stick to the wall ,hang upside down,

your feet will magicly glue themselves and survive

extrordinary circumstances. that said

and inserted into one’s belief system

the real difficulty will be to resist the urge

to put way to many bugs and lizards and stuff

into the board construction matrix.

as a statement in time

the day the november fly landed

to include itself in ‘that’ board

set this board apart from all the rest

look closer you can see six little feet

makin this here board ALL REET.

…ambrose…

aw shux and really

it’ll take a jewelers lupe

and a bendover to see

the marks of a kamakazi

…bee…

That’s cool ambrose. Had a little blood sacrifice of my own last week(no stitches).
