McCoy Astron zot 2013

It’s almost 3 years since the last Astron zot thread (RIP) and back then I was pretty keen to try one.

took a while but I’ve just bought a lightly used 6’ x 22" x 3" zot.

Won’t have it under my arm and into the water for a couple of weeks.

Curious to hear of others experiences with them.

any of you other posters from the first thread that had zots still got them?

(Sounds a bit strange re-reading that last sentence)…

Make sure you give us a ride report pete. And pics!

Sure will Mark,

you can live the MCCoy experience vicariously through my reports.

assuming you haven’t ridden one yet.

wasn’t Batoes keen to hook up for a paddle aways back?

He did lend me his nugget, though I didn’t get any waves on it. Combination of bad timing and bad luck. They certainly are intriguing. My mal has a rolled bottom, and although its a very different style of board, I love it, and love riding it as a single. One day I’ll get one, busy with work and kids so not any time soon haha. Next one will be another JD. Hopefully order will go in around Xmas.

I have a 6'0 Astron Zot and a 6'4". There is a huge volume difference between the boards and at my height of 5'8" the 6'0" is perfect. It suits my style of surfing which is pretty much to fit in as many turns per wave as possible. It has a surprisingly good range between waist high to head and a half which is as big as I have ridden it. My favourite board ever, but duck diving all that volume and wide nose is a killer for the beach breaks i normally surf.

I hear you Mark.

JD’s boards are a thing of beauty.

shame you didn’t get to try it.

Hi Burnsie,

I’ve read your thoughts on them on your blog.

I’ve gone and picked the same length (can’t recall width of yours) but I’m 92 kgs.

After a 6’4" zap and stumpy I figure the 6’ should have close to the same volume since it has more width/fullness in its planshape.

I was comfortable on them. The zap suited me better but I believe I will enjoy a wider nosed board better.
