I’ve had the same problem here in Oz. Finally just managed to get one two weeks out from an indo trip.
Apparently the reason you can’t get one overnight at the moment is the European market is at it’s euro buying peak at the moment and they’re going nuts over nuggets. So that’s where the good people from surftech are sending them.
I got that info from Mark who runs the McCoy showroom at Manly in Sydney.
So I guess it’s either hang out and wait. Or the M13, which I’ve never ridden, but certainly looks the goods. Just make sure you go up a few inches in length.
That said, there is no substitute for a nugget. Everyone tries to copy them, but they don’t work the same.
Personally I prefer Geoffs handcrafted version to the surftech. A bucket load more drive from the bottom and straight line speed. I keep a surftech in my quiver of three for travelling, Much lighter and indestructable, so they’re a great back up.
For what it’s worth I have been riding a 6’8" nugget from Geoff for the past few weeks and I’m sold on the design, I’m even selling a Campbell bros bonzer to fund a 6’2" nugget. It paddles better than a longboard even into ripples and is smooth and solid in hollow waves. I have only two things I don’t like so far. Firstly all that tail area 17", is harder than normal to control in re-entries, but that’s just a transitional issue. Secondly it has glassed on fins and I’m currently stressing about whether I should bring it to Biarritz in two weeks. FCS would be much handier. It would also allow me to try a 3d Red tip. I have a feeling that it would really complement the board.

Geoff doesn’t mess with any fin box companies. He told me they don’t work with his bottoms. If what he says is true…then another reason to not buy the Surftech version thinking your getting what a Mccoy rides like. Also with re entries…I have found most that have an issue with that on a nugget…which is pretty much all about re entries…is they are not on the tail far enough back.
Many folks that ride longboards tend to stand too far forward on these when they jump on them. Not saying thats your issue…your likely right… it’s just figuring out the transition. I have never found the tail area hard to control and mine are 18 and 18.5 wide. Go single on your next one and open an entire new world.
So you have to wonder if ekim ever got his Nugget and how did that work out for him. It’s been 5 years and not a word. No Thanks for the advice guys love the Nugget or You guys don’t know shit. The M 13 is a far superior Board.
