Last month there was a post concern a Mccoy design called the “nugget.” The board featured a bottom shape discribed as a “loaded dome.” I am really curious about this design. Someone say it was a doamed figure eight on the bottom. Doesn’t this go against all current shortboard designs that incorporate concaves in the bottom? If anyone out there knows what this bottom design is about could you please email me a sketch? Is this a legitmate concept or just another hype to sell boards? Any rider feed back?

Hey Tuna, I have two McCoys both with the “loaded dome”, as that is all geoff shapes in his boards to varying degrees. It is basically a rolled vee in the bottom and a slight rolled vee in the nose with a slight front foot flat spot. Both of the rolled vee’s are in an oval or teardrop shape. If you draw a figure 8 and stretch it out, the flat spot is in the middle. Draw the board’s outline around the 8 and you have the bottom layout. As for how they go, both of mine are fantastic, but as a surfer and backyard board builder i’m always looking for something different, however I seem to be going back to these boards for ideas as most of the local shapers in my area are very narrow minded i.e either ride a normal thruster, mini mal, or 9 footer. As geoff has on the nuggets logo “designs to free your mind”, and I don’t think that’s a bad idea.
Gill… are your boards tri fins or single? A rolled bottom with tri fins sounds interesting…ass backwards from what everyone else does. Thanks for the response, I don’t know why this intrigues me so much.
Both Tri’s, but both have a larger fin template. More 80’s style fin.
