G’day mp,

Brian McGrigor was an aussie boardmaker based in brookvale, sydney.

A girl I know’s dad was a shaper there for some time, Barry King (now passed on, RIP)

from what I know the McGrigor brand was being produced from 1972-79

hope this helps

let us know if you get it and post some PICS!!!

I think Robbo is right. Brian did not shape as far as I was aware. The board was most likely shaped by Barry King.A great shaper and a good friend.

He made beautiful pin tails and I still have a couple in my collection. When DY gets big I break ‘em out and chase a few walls! The down the line speed is fantastic!

OK, since pics have been asked for… here is a pic of a McGrigor single fin I had in for a ding repair earlier in the year.

Board: McGrigor Single Fin - triple stringer

Shaper: Barry King

Dimensions: 6’ 4" - 19" - 3"

I eventually got to ride it (in not so good conditions) and it went pretty well. Would have been nice to try it out on a clean, offshore day.

Apologies in advance for the poor quality - the flash in my camera wasn’t working at the time that these pics were taken.

Thanks robbo and everyone for the info and photographs .There is a telephone number on the decal which places it post 75.I am not near the shop but will see if they can find an initial or some indication if Barry King shaped it.What was there reputation and were they mainly into shaping guns? Also who was Mcgrigor and what was his involvement if he didn’t shape

Brian McGrigor was the owner of the factory which was located near Bennett Surfboards on Harboard Rd in Brookvale. McGrigor made all shapes and sizes it’s just that Barry King made very nice pin tails! I have a 1974 6’8” rounded square tail for sale shaped by Barry if anyone’s interested. It’s in fair condition, watertight but could use some TLC from someone like Platty.
