Mckee 5 fin...measurement missing?

Hey gang,

im using the mckee system to layout a five fin set up…however It appears there is a measurement missing?

mckee chart gives me;

  • distance from tail for front, back and centre fin

  • width between back fins

  • fin direction for front and back fins (toe in)

…: so nowhere can i see where it gives me a measurement for the location of the front fins either in from the rail, or wdith between front fins (like it does for the rear fins)!!!

Helllllllp!!!,

I also put up an excel spreadsheet years ago that helps with calculating toe in if given measurements off the nose.

1.125" in from the rail is standard

My fins are sized and located to work thier best .

A Formula with generic fins is fuzzy .

Sounds harsh but it is what it is .

If you wish to take the easy path

You are weak and unsure of yourself.

Simple!

Ah, for local conditions

In case there was any confusion , the excel spreadsheet I posted, doesn’t tell you where to put fins, it converts toe-in measurements from inches off the nose to something which is easier to measure, inches from straight.

On another note good advice.

Mr Griffin, do you mind sharing any part of your thought process on how you went about positioning a fin cluster when you have designed a new shape?

Pretty interested in any insight you may give. I have ordered some 4wfs boxes and excited to change toe in during a session to see how the feel changes.

Placements and sizes came from riding them and adjusting over and over .

After making so many you can come up with a good starting point for something new .
