McTavish Article ?'s

I read the McTavish article in Surfers Journal and have a few questions I am hoping someone can explain. Symmetrical rails: It that when the right rail matches the left rail at the same position on the board even though the rail may change from the nose to the tail? Tail Feathers: I have no idea what he is talking about, an explaination please. Thanks in advance, Frank.

Symmetrical rails: McT means plain old 50/50 rail contour, same cross-sectional curve on top and bottom Tail Feathers: “new” gimmmicky name for plain old rail wings, step cuts in the rear template Zeppelin rails: 50/50 rails made up of long flat sections running nose to tail, separated by 4 sharp linear breaks. Broken up into angles, faucets, instead of smoothly curved contours. Supposedly improved roll and release, less chance of catching Consider the simplicity and proven function of the (1) “Ted Spencer Innermost Limits” copy photo on page 28 of McTs (in TSJs) “Kicking Over The Traces”.

Mac’s Zeppelin rails got me thinking about using my fred tool along the top of the rail (after rail banding with the planer as usual) to knock down the edge that remains along the perimeter of the deck. Has anyone tried using fred to round down their rails after rail-banding. Thanks.

That’s a beautiful board (Ted Spencer copy) . I didn’t realize he was riding one that small in the ILPF. Any idea what the tail width is on that board? Or better yet, all of the board’s dimensions.
