measure deck or bottom

Just wondering the number of shapers that measure the deck versus the bottom. I was taught a true longboard has to be measured tip to tip. I mean you don’t measure the bottom of a boat.

Ken - I agree with your assessment on measuring length. There IS a difference if you measure along the bottom which involves a little curve (rocker) but virtually all the people I’ve talked to just do it that way. I suppose if you’re in a longboard contest requiring a specific minimum, you should consult with the organizers early on to avoid any disputes. The difference in my opinion is negligible.
