That place gets packed. I recommend an early gathering. I found ample parking there provided you get there before 7 AM. I am game for any early one. It’s a good place to launch SUPs also. We are talking about this Saturday, August 2?
Let me know and I can start planning and get a BBQ menu together.
I’m ok with meeting at Magic Island instead if the parking is better. You guys pick the spot and I will show up with boards beer and some food…hard for me to get the kids there by 7am though, takes us an hour to drive to town.
We can switch to Sunday if that is better for more folks. I see that Bud can’t make Saturday…
Works for us. Sunday at Magic island. See ya there!! Chime in here if you can make it, or just show up…
I might hit the super ferry this weekend, maybe ill catch up with you guys
Its been pretty flat up until the last few days… doesnt look like much this weekend?
edit
well shit never mind checking the magicseaweed surf forecaast looks like you guys got waves full time… sucks we always get shielded by the other islands and has to be just right to get anything
The Natatorium is across Kapiolani Park if you stay on Kalakaua following the beach past all the hotels and the volleyball nets you’ll approach the park on your left. Keep going till you see another minipark on your right next to a large delapidated concrete facility. It was a memorial built to honor the WW1 veterans and was built as a saltwater pool right next to the ocean. You can turn into the loop or park anywhere near on Kalakaua you can find free parking which is rare
Alot of OC1, SUP paddlers and picnic’rs setup tents and barbeque in the little park. People drive in early from far away on the weekends to party, picnic and stay all day.
The famous surf spot Publics is right outside the natatorium. Watch Out Deep Holes and Queens are a 15-20 minute walk back to Waikiki down the street. Lots of beautiful people and health freaks with triathlete bodies everywhere definitely not a Haubush or Makaha crowd.
the elks clubs, the outrigger canoe club and the “W” hotel are right up the street.
I’m surprised nobody mentioned “Fly’z” near Kakaako Park or Sand Island beach park. Good surf! Good place to hang out and have a BBQ. Parking usually not a problem and the crowds were minimal. Just a suggestion. To bad I’m stuck here in Osaka. LOL! Aloha, DC
On oahu now with the cous… after getting totally screwed by the ferry, caught a flight over today. We were wondering if theres anything more we could bring
