Anything useful for hangin at the beach - shade, a bbq, stuff to eat or drink. Maybe a beach chair if you want. I am bringing mostly finger food like veggies fruit chips chicken wings etc etc
Surf is looking pretty small so bigger boards might be better.
I may bring a guitar if the car isn’t too full.
I know austin dennis bud have confirmed; I think bernie is planning on showing up. Pray for surf!!
Harry and I are bringing two 10x10 popups, a small table, some chairs and a bunch of food.fried chicken, kalbi, riceballs, sodas and juice. Maybe I’ll throw in my travel guitar, and song book although I haven’t played guitar in years.
Oh yeah and probably 6-8 boards mostly homemade composites to check out stuff from Shwuz, CMP, my ugly stuff and some longboards. No waves predicted…
Dennis
we’re gonna try and get there before 7:00 so we can get a spot.
Hope the weather cooperates, we had to work all afternoon out in the rain trying to finish some more boards.
Good to hear Harry can make it. OK I will stick to SPAM and poke next time!! Kaisers had some waves today but I don’t know what the morrow will bring, good nuncle…
Mayhaps some surf, mayhaps the bitter flatness of summer.
Good fun at the beach yesterday, nice to see all the familiar faces and really good to make some new friends too. Got to surf with the boyz from Maui. Excellent grinds and found out that Harry can play guitar way better than me! Typical Sways deal there were twice as many boards as people, ranging from tiny to huge. Every fin, system, method of construction, and board design under the sun…but wait nobody brought a mat! I did hear somebody talking about them tho…
Sorry you missed it Herb - we will have another get together closer to you in mid-September when Bernie comes to the mainland.
Hey I ended up with somebodys beach towel in our stuff by accident - red and blue flower patter - let me know if it belongs to you and I will return it.
Thanks to everybody for showing up and bringing all the stuff. Very much appreciated!
that’s Harry’s towel he called me to let me know he forgot his flash light and towel but I had already left for home.
I can pick it up from you later with the boards.
Yes
it was an honor to finally meet the great Bob Marley and his cousin even after all those nasty rumors about his demise. Didn’t look at all what I expected but at least they both can surf and build some nice BB inspired compsands…(without a vacuum setup I must add)
Even Austin(Rhino) rode his bike all the way from UH to come visit and try Lorenzo’s SUP as did Harry.
Good to see Dennis and family and to finally meet the super star shaper/surfer of the group Bud808, beautiful boards Bud!
We did miss Ambrose, John(manoa), Derek(foamdust), Charlie(honolulu), Mark(bammbamm), Ben(sirwanks), Blaine(carvenalu), Bill(s) and all the rest of the local crew. Waikiki/Kapiolani Park is sure a beautiful place compared to Haubush.
Special thanks to Lorenzo and friend who did all the setup/cooking in the hot sun
we brought way too much food and drink as usual.
we also brought way to many show boards instead of rideable boards…
Hopefully we can just togethor next time with everyone in the water again before Keith leaves.
Probably Three’s/Paradise (since Dennis is an unofficial mayor there) again when Keith gets back from Maui next week.
Keith its nada for me on the diversion to San Diego next month.
I was reminded have to get back ASAP from my Vegas conference to prepare for a customer seminar we putting on the following Monday.
Hi Keith, that was my towel. I forgot my flashlight and towel. Bernie said you gave him the flashlight, but didn’t get my voice mail until after he was on the road.
If you want to try one of my 8’ mini longboards, you’re welcome to. The boards I brought yesterday work the best on smaller days, but I’ve ridden them in solid overhead waves.
Be fun to get 3 or 4 guys out in head high surf and swap boards around. That’s the best way to really see the differences. That fish looks like it’d be a lot of fun.
It was great to finally put some faces to the forum names I see on here… not often do you get to put faces to names when you live 9+ months of the year 1/4 of the way around the world. Too bad maui didnt have a bigger sways community too.
Keith, surfing was a blast but maybe we should of went to that other spot, dragging my fins along reef 4-5 times isnt much fun, but in the end it was great to finally get out there with ya, be sure to call me when you come to maui next week as im flying back over tomorrow night. Hopefully we’ll get lucky and some good swell will come, i’ll have to show you all the good spots that the southside can offer with the right swells, in particular olawalu… love that place, maui pipe
Oneula, sorry for the surprise, haha… maybe i should come up with a new forum name to not throw people off. Thanks for the kind words and check your pm’s, im ready to get ordering the goods. Was nice meeting you and your brother.
Dennis and lorenzo, killer food… thanks for the aloha and sharing.
Hey it was super cool to meet up & hang with you guys yesterday. Stoked to check out all the killer boards.
Thanks for putting everything together, I know there’s a lot of work, early morning packing and the the end of the day cleanup! Mahalo … looking forward to the next time
It was a great event. I even got to bond with my 2 and a half year old grandaughter and paddle with her on an 11 ft. board that I built for her and me.
The company was great and it seems that the love of surfing, the ocean and building surfboards bridges the generation gap. My niece Kailin was telling us of her upcoming sailing trip on the Hokulea. She is only a senior in high school and she has a real bond with the ocean and surfing.
Bernie, Harry and I are planning the next Oahu Swaylock get together. We we planning to break in my new shaping room with a shaping session. Charlie Wong might even put on a little shaping demo. We are thinking to do this the Sunday of the upcoming labor day weekend. Any takers?
Really wished I could have been there. Sounds like you guys had a blast. Where did you folks surf? Publics? Any pics? Hopefully I’ll be able to be there if another one takes place before Keith departs…
