merits (if any) of a true FISH over 6' long in bigger surf

Sorry Dale, but that picture appeared on Bud’s Blast web site long before Swaylocks!

Thanks… just referring to a previous thread which provided a bit more background information.

Yes! Even SUB 6`-0" Fish definitely have merit in larger surf! Especially when used as kneeboards (w/a good pair of swim fins), in smooth surface conditions.

“He is riding a Fish built by Alan “Bud” McCray, one of the foremost kneeboard shapers in the world today.”

And Bud definitely “tweaks” his designs to fit the waves they will be ridden in. Length, rocker, width, rails, everything. Small changes can make a huge difference if they are in the right place and well executed and integrated into the design in a sophisticated way.

You almost make it sound as if it is a bad thing for Bud to “tweak” his Fish design!

As if there was only one true way to make a Fish, handed down from the surf gods through Steve Lis, and anything else is blashemy!

You may or not be aware that Steve Lis is still making Fish, yet his modern Fish are not exactly the same as his earlier Fish. In fact, even his earlier Fish were not all the same, as the early Fish incarnations all showed a bit of variation!

Question: Is a Fish still a Fish with a quad (or tri) fin set-up, or do only twin keel fins qualify?
