I am looking for dimensions for the adjustable shaping racks like foamez sells. They are out of stock and I live in Fla. I am looking to have a set made. Looking for the dimension for the v portion of the rack.
hey, man…i can’t help you out with the racks, but you got some really nice shots of me and a couple friends of mine surfing at jupiter on some freak little micro-swell awhile back…THANKS!
C’mon Brandon. Put that “near genius” I.Q. of yours to work and design him some racks!!! It’s the least you can do after the man took all those cool pics of you and your friends.
i’m an innovator…if it’s a copy machine you’re looking for, call Xerox.
Here are mines, i don’t have the numbers with me, but it’s really easy, just grab a measure tape and measure from your bely to the floor and that’s a good place to start i think. After all they will be “adjustable” shaping racks…
I like them a little taller, my back injuries had teach me that the straighter i hold any weight, the longer i’ll able to surf, and the planer is a heavy weight i think, specially the new beast i hope i’ll have in some time.
Good waves!
Coque,
What/how do you use the other racks visible in your photo?
Dave_D
Dave, those are my old shaping racks, and now i use them as galssing racks.
Having the new racks attached to the floor make a lot of difference when shaping.
I havent got pics cause Im not at home but here is the low down on some cheap and easy shaping/glassing rack that is well easy to store and depending on what you start with they are height adjustable too (to some degree anyway…)
Start with an old ironing board - rip the foam off the deck to expose the wire mesh undernieth, make the “T” section like the racks above out of timber or metal if you have time and drill holes in the base. Use bolts with wing nuts to secure these to the wire mesh.
Pad with foam as usual and hey presto. Took about an hour and a half from starting with an old ironing board to having my fold away shaping racks that I pull out when ever I feel like making the garage look like a snow storm…
Also, the wire mesh acts as a handy shelf for plainer, surform and other necesssary tools of destruction…
Very poor sketch atttached for reference (thanks to microsoft paint… possibly the lamest ever excuse for a drawing utility)
***Note these will obviously not be as stable as the 50mm tube as pictured above… but they are good, and can be fixed or weighted down mor for better stability if you need it…
Today i’m in the office and i found this Jpeg file i sent to the guy who made my shaping racks. They were really cheap (around $100.00).
Keep in mind that pieces “A” and “B” where finally shorter, the measure in this photo is too long.
The document is in Spanish, but to read number and centimeters i think you don’t have to know spanish.
* 1’’ = 2.54 cm
mfsurfboards I have a set of those racks. The bottom is 6 “. The verticles are 11”. the two top ears are 4.5". Please note that I took the measurements with the foam I have wrapped around them. Hope that helps.
