Does anyone have any experience using metal flake (glitter)? I’m interested in the application process (in general) and use with resin tints. Success and failure stories welcome. RKO
Metal flake on a floating object? Don’t they make fishing lures like that? I don’t know if I would paddle out in my area during feeding time with that thing.

Sometimes you have to have some fun… Never tried metal flake paints on a board - I tend to have enough problems with metal flake paint anyway without applying to surfbords. I did go retro on a handboard and a bellyboard and used actual glitter straight from a craft shop. There are different sizes of the stuff. I mixed the fine (smallest) size in with the resin and it worked ok on the handboard. With the larger flakes the colors bled and they left bumps - would need another coat of resin maybe to get rid of it. That was on the bellyboard - I won’t be posting pictures of it here - and I figured it didn’t matter on that one anyway. Don’t know how glitter would work under the glass, but looks kind of cool in the sun when in the resin. Also a great way to piss off the machine-shaped white board soul patrol… Nels
Put the metal flake in your hot coat batch, and mix it up really GOOD!!!It will leave a zitty texture when it dries,so watch your coverage, and sandout.I would suggest a gloss coat over it,plus it shows up better for your efforts. Go to an art supply store and ask them for plastic glitter it’s easier to work with.Herb.

Bob Kennedy of Boss Boards uses metal flake with great success. Glitter is really sood to use as an anti degredation device. I recon it stops UV getting onto the blank. The best success i’ve had is to make a strong glitter mix in really warm resin with low catalyst percentage. As far as the lure aspect goes, I’ve surfed them at offshore reefs in South Australia the White capital of the world. Origionally i did the glitter thing so that i could find my board out to sea when i broke my leg rope, but i found it to be of greater lasting characteristic, plus its so disco!
