Metallic Paint

I’ve seen very little metallic paint on boards. Is there a reason? I’m thinking about using some as a secondary trim color but I’m concerned because it is used very often.

Gets hot.

Only looks good on the beach, in sunlight…gets hot.

Looks kinda cheap too.

What do fishing lures look like? Do you want to be on a fishing lure?

Hmmm I wonder what kind of fish you can catch with a 9ft fishing lure?..and whos gonna reel it in?

I saw a board over at Moonlight that was painted a goldish/copper metallic color…it looked nice plus it had balsa/agave glass on’s…I once made a red board with silver shinny glitter…now that looked like a giant fishing lure. eek!

I have had pretty good luck with spray cans of Metallic Acrylic Lacquer. You get these at auto parts stores and they are called touch up colors. The brand I use is called “Plastikote”.I do this type of color work on the hotcoat…it doesn’t seem look good on foam.If you mist on a clear coat of acrylic over the paint work and scuff it with a scotchbrite pad you can gloss over it.I only use Reichold gloss resin because it kicks fast.Silmar resin takes too long to jell and may eat in to the color work.
