Looks great!Let us know how it rides for you!Herb
mike d., that fish looks SO FUN. very nice work. i also like the way you layed out the picture. with the moon in the background. very cool. one of the best so far. kirk
Mike, Thanks for submitting that sweet looking board – you must be pretty psyched. It looks like a super fun ride especially with those big twins back there. Let us know how it rides and keep up the nice work. mike
Ever since I got that board down the waves where I live have been awful. I guess my timing sucks because this always happens to me. I did take it out once in 1 to 2 foot wind swell crap and caught a couple of little fun ones. I can tell it will work pretty good for me. I just have to figure out some things about riding these kinds of boards. I have never had/made/or ridden anything like it. Magic Man & Herb really helped me out. I have made some twins in the past with modern type twin fins and rocker and they rode awful. Every time I would push on the tail it would release. In my opinion, with this design the original way is the only way. Much thanks to you guys.

Being your first time with the fish design, how did you come up with such a traditional outline?
As I mentioned in previous posts, I had made some other kinds of twins and did not like them. I kept seeing and hearing about traditional fish designs and how much fun they were. I got some books about twin fins and their placement not realizing that 8 to 9 inches up is good but for the fin templates of the era. I had been using this setup with a template that was smaller and had less surface area. It was like comparing apples to oranges. Magic Man and Herb hooked me up with fin specs, placement, and general rail/rocker specs. A friend had an old G&S 5’7" twin (with keel fins, very odd configuration). I simply made a template and tweaked it to my needs. I did mean to infer that I came up with all this with no help. I just took a bunch of elements I thought would work and stuck them together.
…>>>>>>…If this is the Bob O that I know,(Boss Surfboards)It was a inquiry of his version/model,“The Newporter”,and how he came about the design.I saw DavO’s,and was just wondering(nice stick by the way Bob).Herb

How about giving up the specs – including the fin placement etc… I just got back from picking up an 8.3 E that I intend to carve a fish out of. I have to go through the Archive exercise to pull down Magic Man and Herbs advice. What blank did you choose? Magoo
I did this out of a 6’9" eps blank with flat rocker. I cut even more out of it, to end up with 3" nose and 1 3/4" tail. Rocker, as you know, is kind of a relative thing. All I know is you want it flat. For me that is something that I will have to get use to when paddeling. But the board seems to catch waves easily (in the limited amount that I’ve had to ride it). The board is 2 3/4" thick. The eps gives some extra float. The fins ended up being 7 1/4" base x 5.25" tall. Magic Man suggested 7.25 x 5.5. but when I made my template and cut/foiled it lost a little height. The back of the fins are 8 1/2" from the tips and 1 1/4" out from the rail. I set them with a 1/4" toe with a cant of 4 degrees. This is what I was use to. Herb told me to keep the rail hard from the tips to 18" up. This with big fins and the deep swallow (mine is 6" deep) kind of give you some grab/stability to push off of. They could tell you way more about the concepts than I. I have much to learn and I’m stoaked I have this board as a starting block to work from.
