Been making boards for myself for a few yaers(on no. 12) mostly re-shapes, been surfin since I was 15.
Rode all types from orig. fish to modern thrusts and 9’ 0" in my 40’s.
Want a board that does it ALL !!!
Going to do this.
WHAT YOU THINK ?
6’4" 17.5"N, 22", 15"T (swallow) 2.75"thick (cut down 8’4"nose rider(No.3) which is brill but delamming, guess why?),
2-1 fins(centre in box for altering fin, home made), rocker low in nose and in tail wih single concave from nose thru to the front fins. To be ridden in beach breaks!!!
Thick nose with ‘pecketrater’ ? nose rail, even thickness thru to THICK swallow tail.
Should give… fast nose( forward) trim from takeoff, and then allows either …
STAY on nose or…
GET BACK onto tail and push it!!!
You guys must know some one who has tried this, give me some feed back please.
You should quickly glance at the other thread about noseriding funboards, still within the top 30 subjects.
I stated my opinion…they don’t do anything well, especially catch waves! They paddle easy, kinda fast, but not sprint fast. Most shortboards catch waves about the same, but shortys turn much, much better, easier quicker, snappier.
I’m sure other’s have different opinions, hope you get to hear them too.
Look in Longboarding magazine - a shape by Scott Anderson called the “Pescado”. Is something like that what you’re looking for? There’s a few guys out there that love them. I’ve got one on order that’s supposed to be on its way to me. Let you know when I get it underfoot…
Leed I dont see how a mini longboard that has alot of volume and flotation will minimal rocker would catch waves the same as a typical low volume shortboard with the kicked nose rocker. TO me it seems like the minilog would win hands down in terms of catching waves. But I am interested in the logic behind your suggesting that they will catch waves the same.
Say… 2 guys same size and skill (me and GregRaymondRIP).
Him on a 6’ G&S noserider fun, about 22" wide.
Me on a 6’ G&S performance tri, about 19" wide.
Fun floats higher, is easier to paddle. Sprint speed goes to Tri.
Typical slow moving 2-3’ waves, about the same wave catching, as the tri just tips nose down, and sprint speed (more arm in the water) makes up for first slower moving stroke.
Take them out in fast moving 4-6’, tri wins hands down, doesn’t get hung up, much quicker, can handle late drops.
Fun still paddles first stroke easier, but gets hung up with any offshore winds, doesn’t tip nose down, and sprint speed paddling is what allows you to catch faster waves sooner.
Pure float advantage of the funboard only helps weak paddlers and beginner surfers.
guys, yeah I hear what you say but… I’m 51 yaers old, busted hip , busted elbow, slower than I used to be etc, etc, etc,
O.K so increase rocker abit, thin out nose abit, and only expect to use board in 2-4’ crap!!! which is what i have toride MOST of the time.
Get benifit of a more all round useable board with more FUN.
Waves get good and Yeah need less nose to make a more responsive board, buut, if I go to 9-0 boards I lose the short board responsiveness (in small waves) and when it gets good I need toadjust again.
Want to ride hard ALL the time just like NAT did.
SO… rocker it up a bit, single to double concave, thick like a Fish, tri or 2-1 fin set up, its got to fly.
Going to do iy anyhow…let you know what happens. Probably crap like yu say but thats the fun of trying something different, plus I don’t like true fish coz of the backside issue.(probably me just a crap surfer)
Soory bout late post but I’m in U.K. so different time zone!!!
