dims sound fine, except I would cut that thickness to 2 3/4 or so. im not gonna download your file but I really urge you to shape the board yourself if thats an option for you. if you have somewhere to glass, you probaly have somewhere to shape.
ha. it will make a mess in the drive way. Here’s what. Wait until your parents leave town for the weekend. Have everything ready and get it done to the point where most of the foam is off and mostly swept up. Just fine tuning left. Then, when they return, tell him your buddies were really working on you to have a big beer party but you said no because you had to shape that board. I 'll they will be relieved and you will get a slap on the back for your mature judgement.
Let us know if we need to phone your parents and explain. I, myself, am busy that day, but I’m sure we can get someone to call on your behalf. Maybe Herb can come over.
I think the main reason is not so much floatation as it is weight… correct me if I’m wrong but the mini simmons is already kinda too small to rely on just glide for speed (like a longboard) so you want something that you can work up and down the wave face without struggling too much… but I think Tyler Warren uses PU/PE for his mini-sims… although he surfs it in chest-high trestles… http://www.korduroy.tv/2010/tyler-warren-all-yew
Do what you want though, keep in mind that EPS is usually a little weird to shape compared to PU, glassing with epoxy is more user-friendly though. With PU, you should probably use UV polyester Resin… I have yet to glass with Polyester, but for the next board I will use UV-resin.
Hey Harryy I just uploaded one I’m working on now for me. I’m about 195lbs so way too much foam for your weight but you can tweak that yourself. Just scale it down to your length and go thinner, play around with it and make it your own.
I think your outline looks a little funky, the widepoint at +71/4" is waay to forward which creates some very parallel rails. Most of the simmons have similar nose and tail widths too. Bottom rocker looks pretty good but the deck needs to be foiled out by the nose and tail. I like the shape of the nose. Looks like you have a big single concave running through the middle. Mines a bit different with some belly in the nose and there is some vee in the back to help me move that giant tail, you might want to change that to concave or whatever floats your boat.
If you are getting this thing machine shaped I’d refine your design as much as possible so you don’t have to work on it after the machine. I’m no expert by any means, hopefully this gives you a little help.
