Mini simmons stoked !!

Hey everyone just built my first mini simmons. Stoked!! So fast! Tell me what you think. Please post pic of your mini’s or fishes. Also which works better for you fish or the mini? Thanks

Very nice! Love the slightly-rounded/diamond tail - great blue tint job as well… getting me stoked to make mine!

Nice job mate

I think I put a bit too much rocker. It’s a 5’3" and it has almost 3" in noes and 3/4" in the tail. Really fast in knee to head high waves with a pocket. Kinda hard to surf it when it mushy or flat faced. I’m defiantly no expert but from my experience surfing it the less rocker the better. What numbers do you guys use?

Met you on Friday afternoon and we checked out each others boards - nice shape you have there. From my experience those rocker #s are ok, but try dropping the tail rocker to 0 or 1/4"+. That should help with the drive in slower waves. I put 3 1/2" - 4" of nose rocker on mine with good success, not too much though or it will push water. If you make the board too flat it will struggle with later drops and bog rail while trying to do turns in critical parts of the wave, something this shape is generally prone to anyways.

Cheers!

Cool man, ya I remember you. Thanks for the tip, ill right that down for the future. Im not planning on making a new mini anytime soon. Ill prob only surf that board at that spot. I’m moving on to the next design. I want to make a fish next. Any advise for bottom contours, rocker specs or rail profiles would be greatly appreciated. I got a nice template cut out for a 5’8". Anyways see ya out there next swell.

Cool thank for the tips. I remember meeting you. I kinda wanted less tail rocker but it’s hard to get that outta the blank. I used a 68rp as I advised by many. I like that I can actually get a good feeling turn out of it. Anyways I’m moving on to the next design. I’m gonna try again at a twin keel fish. 4th attempt all other ones surfed kinda weird. I made a 5’8 template that looks nice. Any advice on rocker, rails & bottom contours. Thanks See ya out there soon

Beautiful board ! Impressed.
I plan to build one also. I am thinking about putting a little tail rocker 1/2"?

Nose rocker prob 3". You prob should make more of the Sims to learn about it thru your surfs…

The Fish boards seem to be flat w an lowish rocker on - both sides… on fish over 5’11" a bit of vee in tail seems to be the go… I talked to an expert who suggested vee panels peaking between fins…ahead of that you want the vee to fade out to a point…I figured 1/3 the length up from my tips, and that where it zero out…behind the finz it can - either carry out tips 1/8" , or fade to zero, or alamost nothing…up to you. This is not cut in stone, but you can run your vee panel even longer than the third point. Fyi I surfed a knee board that worked well w vee panels up to almost center!

Other options: single concave, single to double etc…but I’m still learning about concave stuff! Maybe sum Fish guru will chime in?

Again, Nice boRd!

On all my retro fish I do 3 3/4 nose rocke and 1 3/4 tail. I like a little rolled entry to flat or slight single to light spiral vee out the back.

that is too much rocker. 2 inch in the nose and 3/4 to 1/2 in the tail for a board in the 5’4" range.  they are short so you can throw them around like a skateboard. good luck

Your board looks good. I shaped this one.
It’s 4’8" / 23" / 2.5" & pure dope.

Epoxy, resin tint & leopard fabric inlay.
Got two three tab keel fins for it.

I’d rather stick with a mini like this, than a fish. But I used to like fishtails as well.

love it.  but who rides a 4-8"?

all the best

well, greg. I guess I do. :stuck_out_tongue:

I been surfing it every day for a month now in conditions that ranged from ankle snappers to a bit over head. And I just love it.

Cheers

Hahahaha. Good on ya. They SHOULD be ridden very short. That just seemed pretty darned short. But I love the shape and the look. Great job.

BTW how much do you weigh?

All the best

Hey greg, I think length may not is the only thing to look at here. Volume is more important.

I’m about 184 cm at 83 kilos. The Volume of this board is around 33 liters. So it has more Volume, than my average small-wave-board.

Glad you like the board in terms of shape and style, though.

Cheers!

Seb

What the heck is that?  Leopard? Ocelot? Jaguar?

Mind if I ask: how’d you do it?

I love it.

And I love the concept of a functioning trunk-board.

Looks fun as…

Hey there newschoolblue! now that you mention it: it actually IS the only surfboard that fits into my cars trunk from left to right. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s leopard. However this is fabric inlay. Just used it like a regular fibreglass cloth underneath the actual fibreglass cloth.

It’s definitely something everyone you’ll meet will be interested in. I can tell. haha.
