I just finished sanding my first board and trial fit the fins. I found out that the center finbox (futures)is out of alignment about 1/16th inch at the back of the box. When I put a long stick against the side of the box I find that the fin is pointed 4 inches to the side of the nose. How can I fix this?
If it were my back hand (pointing to my heal side), I wouldn’t be able to tell it was mis-aligned. ha. Might be looking at routing it out. Just bought a laminate trimmer from Harbor Freight for $20 or so. Looks a little smaller than a router but larger than a dremmel tool. Pop the set screw prior to digging to China. My 2 cents, you don’t owe me though.

the additional weight that you add to the board by fixing it will probably affect your surfing more than the fin misalignment. When surfing the board you will naturally adjust to compensate - probably without knowing that you’re doing it. Worst problem that you’re likely to notice is that the board may be slower in the flats due to increased drag. Best case is you find it easier to to 360s in one direction. I would just learn from the mistake and be more careful on the next board. We tend to be more critical of the boards that we make than the boards that we (used to) buy.
Rip it out and put it in straight. I just did that and the board surfs better. It’s not as quirky.
