im looking around at modern fish shapes and im wondering how to go about shaping a double concave between the fins. Im thinkin a 6’2" 11 1/2" nose 19 1/2" center 13" tail thruster fin setup and low rocker. what would work better a triple concave or double? and what is the depth of the concaves and should they be parallel to the stringer and also where do they start and end on the tail? is the rest of the deck just flat or is there a V in the tail or what? being from ohio i cant go down to my local shop and check it out for myself. ive checked the archives and found soem useful info. thanks for the help in advance! JJ oh would hips or wings help this board any?
please help!
please help! Did you check out the board page? Lots of nice examples there. What do you usually ride? Where do you intend on riding this fish? And what are the general conditions and set-up of your more frequented breaks?Herb
please help! Erie, Step 1. Pull down everything that Magic Man has posted from the Archives. Step 2. Pull down everything that Herb has posted with ‘fish’ as a keyword. Step 3. Think through the whole concave thing as a fish is usually flat bottomed. There have been many discussions on the many variables of fish designs. I think that you will be well served by previous discussions if the fish experts do not respond. Hope it helps, Magoo

Funny I’ve got several boards that are swallow tails but none of them really qualify as fish. 3 are single fins from back in the early seventies all smooth rides all are flat bottom with subtle vee in the tail and the other’s has a little swallow with a thruster set up and is single to double barrell concave and in the tail but it mid section is flat and there’s a little dome in the entry. There are many ways to build a fish and thinking about the conditions you’re going to surf in makes all the difference. Hey what about the news on the starfin? You can reach me at Good Surfin’, Rich
my breaks are usually mushy but sometimes they get nice shape. im lookin for a board that will skate me across the flat sections so i can link up waves. i mostly surf the lakes but i make it to hatteras quite often in late summer and late fall. i ride a 6’8" thruster with full rails and slight vee in the tail. its a thick one but works perfect in the surf here just lacks the speed and i want something a bit looser. thanks for your help guys, the knowledge you provide is invaluable!
