Weeeeeeeeee, seems like there are "bros" also inside Surfermag.

well, i was answering to Dudebro:

Quote:

Can agree that shapers need to make a living and that popouts may be making it tough but lets not put the blame solely on them.

There
are shops trying to sell boards for some markup to make it worth their
while stocking boards and having the extra square footage/employees to
cover this. Then you have the shaper who is undercutting the shop by
giving out bro deals to anyone who comes order from him direct. Great
for the consumer and shaper but bad for the surf shop owner.

Then
on top of that many shapers do not treat their business like a business
and keep to a production schedule. Would rather go surfing or put other
boards in front of boards already scheduled to be made. End result is
they cannot even deliver a set number of boards that shops may need
because of this.

Now it is not always the shapers fault that the
boards are not getting made on time. Sometimes the glassers are behind
and mostly for the same reason. Surfs up so I’m not coming in. Not only
that but I’m not working late to make up for lost production. Also, they
put other glassing jobs in front of ones already scheduled.

So
with all the egos, excuses, and low profits what is the shop owner
supposed to do. Beg the shapers to get them some boards that they can
sell. Nope. This is were the pop-outs come in because they can have that
board anytime their stock runs low and they get better profit margins.

Seems to me somebody dropped the ball and it was not the pop-out manufacturers.

I
have no problems with pop-outs because they fill a spot that was not
completely being serviced by the existing surfboard industry. That being
said I do not own nor have I owned one and feel that the hand shaped
boards I have are far superior to the pop-outs. That is why I feel the
custom board market is never going away.

There a shapers who do
treat there business like a real business and are making it. The ones
who are having problems need to look around them and see what they can
do to make their situation better. Deliver boards on time or be honest
as to why it is not done, don’t have an ego towards prospective or
current customers, eliminate bro deals, and cut expenses as much as
possible. Many people in other industries have lived through what the
surfboard industry is going through and they have found a way to get by.

Once
again I can agree that pop-outs hurt the shapers bottom line but they
are not going away and it is time to make a change in the standard way
shapers operate their business. Certainly hope they do find a way to
adapt and I will keep supporting the custom shaped surfboard industry.
If they have a pop-out model or not.

What
does all this have to do with the double standards on this forum where
some are Evil for producing popouts and others should get the free pass
because they’re “cool” or “bros”???

You either didn’t read the thread before posting or you aren’t getting the point.

I
said several times that i don’t like popouts and i’d never ride one,
but that i don’t have a problem with people riding one. I said it early
in this thread.

Plus, i don’t, by any means, agreed with you on
the spot popouts fill. If there’re unprofessional shapers their spot
will be filled with more professional shapers, there’re tons of them and
good ones. If there weren’t popouts surfboards would have the price
they should have and both the shop and the shaper (and the glass shop)
would be doing the money they should.

This one is for Lennie:

Quote:

WPS screwed Julian not the ASP, but you won’t get the truth from your
pro buddies over there… If WPS pros ride pop outs then they support
pop outs which screws over the locals shapers… hype-o-crite cockue

Where
did you take that this was an WPS decision, i don’t know, maybe you
want to post your insight… because i think your WRONG.

Plus, i
said many times early on this thread that i don’t have a problem with
people riding or supporting popouts, it’s a personal decision, i have a
problem with double standards, with people making the Evil out of some
popout producers and then giving a free pass to Von SOl because “Sean is
cool”.

Again, read before you post.

The telling thing is that the thread was not locked but entirely deleted. What a joke!

Not really telling.

Bassy used to lock threads.

The new admins just sweep it all away.

I’m willing to bet it was done more because of the ASP references than anything else.

You’re kidding, right???

The ASP references here are lighter than on any other given thread.

BTW, i have the entire thread and all my PM saved (screen capture in JPEG) because i saw this coming…

This
censorship may be the last strow and i think i’ll stop posting on the
entire Surfermag forum. I’m not a kid, i don’t like anyone regulating me
like that just because i’m touching one of his bros.

After all, there’s not much life let in Surfermag.com with the numbers they’re doing…

And to think I never even clicked on that thread. I hate it when I miss a good train wreck. Someone should start a train wreck notification service. Subscribers would get a PM notifying them of any epic train wrecks they may be missing...

by the way, I was over on the Tom Wegener thread and I must say, the brakes felt a little spongy to me.

Never mind. How about re-posting that footage of yourself in your avatar. Was quite a while back and can't remember the dims of the board you were riding. Do recall you getting stick from some kooks about it though.

Can we NOT make the next train wreck about me?

I don’t want to participate, I want to spectate!

I hear there’s a shortage of pine shelving…

Well, it was confirmed. i just received an email from one of the Admins: Sean Mattison asked for the entire thread being deleted and the Admin did it. Got to love how well the bro thing works here.

It’s been
nice, maybe i’ll post sometimes, i don’t know, but not in the near
future, this was the last strow of Surfermag censorship, so by now i’m
done with this place.

Dear Sean Mattison, the Admin told you to
sign up and replying me yourself but you refused to, so i just sent you
an email so you have a direct link to me.

Good waves and all the best for you all in this comming year.

Huie,

This is swaylocks, not surfer magazine bulletin board.  Oops.

well belive me this is relavent on here.       i would like to here from coque?

to attempt to moderate this thread would be acting like that other mob

  cheers huie

Good on yah Huie, I had re-registered with Surfermag, com and had thought of a clever comment to add to the  F-fest, but seeing it just swept away was much better…

I have know Sean since before he could drive and darn if he isn’t driven, very self motivated, had it not been for Sean picking Hynson up by his boot straps, Mike would have never made the move on his own.

The proof will be in the pudding, molded auto paint clone boards or American hand crafted or Aussie hand crafted, French hand crafted.

Your point that there are far too many people building boards by the seat of their pants with no real business model to follow, I fell into this class at one time, surf at every chance, put the guy with the money in his hand next, he’ll keep the door open for a few more days.

But at one time or another, it is  publish or perish, shit or get off the pot, I had to realize I only had so many viable years left to get it straight and molded boards weren’t going to be the answer. I had a near come to blows with Dobson over this, he wanted 2 models by BoardWorks, but they want 150 boards guaranteed per model, per size,  that comes out to 300 a year as pop outs, splitting a 50 buck royalty with Dale. The numbers just did not work at all for me, I’m not a model maker, almost all of my boards are customs.

But if a label can make it with their product being done off shore, so be it, we ( collectively ) CANNOT build containers of boards for a guaranteed delivery date in America the way I see it.

I am all over the board here, but this is just my small insight

This is a custom I just finished for Sean

yea well j p i dont have a beef in the original sqawk either way

but this quote from coque   has me rolling on the floor with laughter

BTW, i have the entire thread and all my PM saved (screen capture in JPEG) because i saw this coming…
