Moisture problems/control

What types of problems will you see when you have too much moisture in your glassing room. I am mainly concerned with when you are hot coating and gloss coating. How can you overcome the moisture problem. I work out of my garage and when it is raining outside (which is quite often lately) I have to hold off doing any work. This is getting me way behind. Any ideas on controlling this moist environment or should I not worry about it. Does just bumping up the catalyst solve some of this problem? Thanks in advance. http://members.cox.net/austinsurfboards

My shop is in Hanalei,Kauai, which is one of the wettest spots on earth and sometimes my hygrometer reads 110% moisture( go figure). I increase catlyst amounts, turn on a hair dryer to warm up the shop. I got UV lights now and they work if it’s raining or not. I don’t know where you’re located but it couldn’t get any wetter than here, colder yes wetter no. I don’t think I’ve lost more than 2 weeks work in 8 years due to weather. Aloha, Kokua

if its pretty cold and rainy would you put like a portable heater in there kokua? thanks http://members.cox.net/austinsurfboards

if its pretty cold and rainy would you put like a portable heater in there > kokua? thanks I’m not Kokua, but I can tell you this, if you add a heat you will get warm wet air. Remember warm air holds more water then cold air. You need to suck out the water, from the air, just warming up the air does not solve your problem.

I don’t think the hair dryer is much different from the heater, hair dryer has red hot coils in it too. I would do neither, exploding scares me. worked with a guy who had an open pail of MEK (solvent), dropped it on himself and the floor, bent over to wipe it up and looked over just in time to see the little river of MEK hit the space heater (red hot coil type) POOF! nobody knew why he was flailing about until someone notice the heat waves over him (MEK burns white). he spent an very hard and painful year in the burn unit. be safe.

Heat coils in hair dryer are a lot smaller and it is not located in same room as chemicals. As for your friend,OUCH! Aloha, Kokua
