I think you’re right.
A grit barrel should work well.
I may try a small hand-held belt sander with 40 grit belt.
After I build the twin-channel prototypes, I may start hybridizing using a foam and FG bottom with a 0.5” thick EVA foam deck.

Too late, too deep.
Cold had removed the spheres from the brass monkey. That and a strong North wind burned way too much body fuel to stay warm.
Hopefully daytime air temps in the 80s (rather than 50s) will change the dynamics a tad for me.
