moonrocket attacks !

Happy birthday chip,

cheers mate !

probably good that you weren’t here to see the carnage .

I was so glad Hicksy stayed calm [he was a nurse once …]

I didn’t know what it looked like till I saw the photo , as it is where I can’t see it in the mirror [above and behind my left ear.

hi Roy !

yep, it’s actually the fifteenth stitch I’ve had to my head so far [ten from surfing , seven from skating …plus a few head injuries I never had stitched.]

Well chip my birthday is monday the 9th, I am getting an mri scan and knee surgery.

happy birthday John !

hope it all goes well , and you manage to enjoy the day anyway !

swaylocks … where middle aged men grow older and fall apart gracefully … [and find time in between ops to make the occassional board and fins]

cheers !

Thanks Kokua…

But I have all that stuff too

I actually burn using a DVD burner machine especially for those old VHS tapes that have never been converted to DVD.

The windows media solution is my way of getting around this country format stuff.

Windows Media usually is compatible across devices.

I tried to get one of those portables to make shipping cheaper but they aren’t worth the price. Shipping to AUS is expensive…

I have a bunch of 20-80 Gig drives I’ve accumulated over time some USB 1.1 some USB 2.0 and some firewire. But awhile back I got a 250 gig to consolidate everything on and maybe will get another…

Way more than enough room to hold everything since most movies encrypted to MPEG4 by my archos takes up 1-2 gigs of space. Too bad I have to record in real time defintely kills your day sitting around waiting while recording 1-2 hour movies on the small box and then transferring to you computer’s hard drive via USB. Seems to work though and the archos seems to ignore the encryption which some of the other devices and programs don’t like… We used to do the same thing using a betamax unit and then migrating it back to VHS/8mm but you have signal loss with every migration…

What ever Ben wants to do with his wish list stuff oncw he gets it on his PC if it works is up to him…

For personal enjoyment is my disclaimer sharing what I can is the other…

but you know about that already anyhow…

thanks Bernie ,

I REALLY appreciate all the time and effort you’ve spent on this . I hope you are not missing any surfs on account of me though !

cheers !

ben

man, that’s gotta hurt.

one carbon fibre fin [that I made] , way back in the far forward finbox.

And , THESE flyers …

OK, hear’s the report from an eye witness,

Chip spies attractive young lady in the water on a fish…

Chip says “Hey watch this” to said AYL…

Attempting to do a switch foot whilst in the air he trips over the legrope (only 4’ long on a 8’10") facing backwards and upside down…

Chip throws his head AT THE MOONROCKET and damages himself on purpose to get attention from AYL…

AYL and husband leave the water, laughing and pointing at Chip…

The nurse at the Nursing Post was sooo hot that Chip paid a $10 donation to her…couldn’t get to his wallet fast enough… (what was going on in there that took you so long Chip, I could have had that stitched up in 5 mins, not 45 minutes!!!)

The point he hurt himself on had 6 layers of glass, no chance really…Moonrocket 1 : Chip -2

BTW, while Chip’s head was open I had a look inside, nothing, absolutely nothing in there, which goes to prove you can’t damage something you haven’t got to start with…

Fun day for all the family…

glad chipfish is semi alright . … Well at least you got the company of a hot nurse.

the thing about video’s not working or playing on your computer is . . .

  1. DVDs that are region specific → to counter play your dvd on your computer (hope they installed a region free dvd player) there are ways to make your PC DVD player region free (either by software pllayer or modding the hardware or “updating” DVD drive firmware) or you can rip the files (some PC DVD players are region specific only when playing a DVD movie, but allow you to explore the whole DVD and see all files it has . . . ) using special software, and convert the playable files into other, friendly, or compatible PC formats . . .

1a) DVD laser burn. If you have a blue laser DVD (and most dvd are red laser), you cannot play it in a red laser dvd . . . to counter either get a right laser color dvd player or take it to a dvd media lab to transfer to the right laser color media.

  1. Players suck or you don’t have the right player (video playing software on CD) . Like trying to play real video when you do not have real player installed. Some players can play other players files . . . look to the list of compatible playing files in the options section for your player.

To counter → make sure you can view file extensions (XP, my computer, TOOLs, Folder Options, View tab, uncheck hide file extensions) and highlight only your video file, and figure out what extension (or you can right click on video file, select properties, and in the general it will tell you the file name such as beeflight.avi )

Then google the extension (like .avi ) to find the players that play the video file type) . Or you can get software video file converter and convert the file to one that you have a player for.

caveat: same file types may not play in the same video player. .avi (divx) will only play (example Windows Media Player 9) if you have divx codec installed, but regular microsoft encoded .avi files may play w/out needing a divx codec . . .

2a) codecs: sometimes you have the right player, but the file won’t play or you may get ‘error cannot download codec’ or something. Sometimes players will need the right codec for it to play. A common codec is DivX encoding. Usually this is in the case of .avi files. You may have regulr .avi file that will play, but then you get a .avi file that will not play. Then you d/l DivX codec, and run the installer, then your video player will play that codec. The most notorious codecs are the ‘custom’ or ‘kai’ codecs. Often times savvy video encoders will program their own codecs to do certain things (compress at a certain rate, adjust frame rate while playing because I’m too lazy to sync the audio portion of the video while converting format) . . . but common video file playas won’t play because you need that specific codec installed for that video to run. Usually the site hosting the video also offers the codec needed to play the videos or have a link to where you can get the codec.

To counter: d/l the right codec. If this is impossible, google what possible codecs are available for that file type, then look to d/l groups of codec software packages.

  1. corrupt file or bad DVD / CD burn.

To counter: sometimes you can get software that repairs it. Or you can convert the file to another format, sometimes that may fix it. If it is compressed video (.mpeg is uncompressed, usually .avi is compressed), uncompress it may fix. Or you can use a video editing software and play with the frame rates . … or in rare cases the video plays fine except for certain parts . . . video editing software can allow you to cut out the bad chunks to play the video. Bad media (DVD or CD) burn, see if you can copy file to your hard drive then play. or you can use a DVD / CD buffer (if media is scratched badly or dirty) or cleaner. Or you can request the original file be reburnt. Sometimes DVD writers or burners may need to have a certain code inputted for that brand / make of media. Find out which media (like samsung may have 001 code) brand likes which codes, and input it so your burner burns properly.

Also DVD media varies in quality. On some of them, the backing is the foil which the laser burns the grooves for your media file . . . sometimes low quality DVD’s foil will rip when rubbed with another DVD (like if you stack them) or put a sticker on the top . . . then the media is unsuable (usually ripped foils have transparent spots on your dvd media).

Certain brands /makes / models of DVD burners / writers may write best on certain brands / makes / models of DVD media (same for CD burners); google to find out . …

Burning speed. This does make a difference . . . slower the better. Sometimes to copy things directly like PC games you may need to get software to bypass the security on it, and burn at 1 or 2x speed, to get the fine grooves burnt correctly.

well, the $10 donation part was true at least .

Today I talked to the guy whois setting up “disabled surfers” .

In 1979 , a crocodile took his right arm , right leg and right buttock .

This guy now encourages disabled people to go surfing , has 100 volunteers to help , has a shopping centre , three surfing companies and the cerebral palsy association sponsoring him , and has a local high school helping out .

We are such wimps , aren’t we ? [“ooh my head hurts boo hoo”]

I think I was MEANT to talk to this guy today …a reality check , to say the least !!

cheers !

Sounds like good success from a guy who’s ideas are probably always called half-assed.

Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

Sounds like the Ride A Wave Foundation. Or Jesse Bilauer’s Life Rolls On. All really, really good stuff.

Happy birthday Chipper, and hope your holey head doesn’t leak next time you go surfing.

Thanks for the ‘most ladlocked’ vote. You realise along with that comes ‘most frustrated surfer/shaper’, ‘shaper furthest from a shaping bay’ etc, etc, and ‘most unfit’ and probably ‘most serious weather map watcher’.

Catch a few for me when you get back in the water. Watch out or those extraterrestrials.

cheers mate !

…funny you should watch the weather maps so much , Greg …

…is that to work out your next snowfall ? [because I wouldn’t be torturing myself looking at wavecharts and such if I lived , for example, in Alice Springs !]

catchya !
