Id just like to say a big thanks to all the people that replied to my previous thread about dimensions for my new board…It all coincided nicely with the demo hybrid fish that I got to surf over the last few days…
Ive decided im going to order a custom board around 6’8 x 20 3/4 x 2 3/4 wide swallowtail…
Im wondering about what glass job I should order on it as I must say I wasnt that impressed with the demo one…it looked like it had back foot compressions after only a couple of surfs…I do want to keep it light but would like it to last a while…
Im also thinking about getting a thicker version of my 6’10 x 19 x 2 3/8…squash tail…maybe bump it up to 2 3/4…This is my bigger days board.
My problem has been paddling/wave catching but with the xtra foam …that seems to have solved the problem.
Hey Ant - still curious to see pics of that board if you can take them and post them… So you weren’t happy with the glass job on it though… What was it, or do you know? On my Pescado I ordered a 6+4 top and single 6 bottom. Regular poly. Haven’t surfed it enough to know how long it will last, but that’s what I usually put on my boards. Though I did manage to put my first dent in it with my knee already - bad kickout. How about epoxy? As in Greg Loehr’s Resin Research kind. I haven’t had the chance to try it yet, but am definitely interested. Supposed to be tougher and yet lighter… Was really tempted to ask for it on my Pescado but didn’t know if the glassers had used it before. Decided to go tried and true… Good luck…
Im not sure how it was glassed but I am sure it wouldnt have lasted six months with the beatings we get here.
Ive done some research into glass jobs and talked to my mate the blank and materials importer and will probably go similar to yours maybe use s glass… still working out the pros and cons.
The board im ordering is less dimensions than the one I surfed 6’8 x 20 3/4 x 2 3/4 as opposed to 6’10 x 21 1/2 x 2 /3/4…maybe make the tail around 15.5…
