Morocco Help

Greetings,

I recently moved from California to Saudi Arabia with the wife and kid for job related purposes -I live on a beach but I’m Kind of bummed about the no surf here -At least the kite surfing and wind conditions are decent.

Anyways, I’, going solo to Morocco Dec 18 for a few weeks and had some questions. I brought a shorty with me on the plane and my kite gear, but I need some more gear. Any help with these questions would be appreciated:

[]should i go to agadir or rabat for surf? []should i bus it from casablanca? []where is it less crowded? []can i get cool water wax? []can i buy a board there? (im bringing one and some kites but dont want to bring two boards) []any other tips?

Also, if anyone else is going to be around let’s trade emails and meet up.

Thanks for helping a bruddah out.

PS. Mad respect to all designers and builders. I owe a great debt for all the knowledge I gained from this community.

Larva, []Dec is a great time to go. []Agadir: take a taxi or rent a car to go to Taghazoute, get out on the main square and ask around for accomodation (in French that is). []Rabat: smaller waves better for kite []should i bus it from casablanca? can do, but you can also share a taxi with the locals… []where is it less crowded? down south towards Mauritania, used to have heavy guarded boarder patrols…take a 4x4 as well []can i get cool water wax? maybe goats switch to wax  have a drink at Panoramas (@ Taghazoute) and look south, there is a shed in which they drip dry them… []can i buy a board there? (im bringing one and some kites but dont want to bring two boards) should be a shop in Casablanca []any other tips? respect the locals…especially around Ramadan…look around the corner and you will find…northern maroc more crime…pack a snowboard as well if you visit the Atlas mountains…

Have a great trip!

hey larva,

im going out to morocco on dec 24th for 3 weeks!

im flying to marakech then hire car to immesouanne… worth checking out.

its my 3rd time now and theres a group of us(about 8) who now go every dec/jan

taghzahout is busy but great, we just prefer the quiter aspect at immesouane which is between agadir and essouaira.

boards can be bought but are not always that cheap but you should prob be able to get a shortboard for about £200 in ‘used’ condition.

any traveling if on your own id say taxi, its cheap but you have to share.

wax is available in places like taghzahout as is ding repair etc.

all depends what kinda surf you want… hit me back with more questions.

Everything Martijn said is spot on. I’ll add a few:

  • Bring a 3/2 full suit.

  • Since you have that new job in Saudi, why go on the cheap? Rent a car, bring tie down straps (but watch for shake down speed traps!)

  • Buying a board in Taghazoute may be a problem. Lots of Euro surfers around that would sell their boards to the surf shop for fare home, but the surf shop has no money to buy them! Just bring a board with a removable fin system. Man, I would NOT want to be in that wave rich area w/o a board.

Maroc is great, enjoy!
