Im making a few stock shortboards for the local shop, just in a basic thruster config. But Im not sure what is the most common or saleable size these days...
Im thinking 6'2'.... ??? For average beach breaks.
What do you think is the most common / frequently sold length ?
Some of the pros here will give you the best advice in terms of what people are ordering, but yea… 6’2 used to be the most popular. Still might be, but things seem to be going a little shorter lately now that some of the high profile guys are riding shorter boards.
Howzit surffoils, I think you would need to take into consideration where these boards will be surfed, like Ca. or Hawaii or wherever because it can make a difference. On Kauai most of the boards I did other than LB's were between 6' and 6'6".Aloha,Kokua
Thanks guys, I reckon for the main its still about 6"1' or 6"2', maybe theres a bit of Simmons- esque shortening going on but for average beachbreaks with 3 fins, it would be around 6 foot.
Doing the ordering for a surf company and can tell you that 6’2 is the most popular size, still around oz… followed by now (very closely) 5’10 in fish/biscutt/simmons style.
isn't "short" board length relative to one's height ? hmm

Yeah, but remember, this is for an off-the-shelf (or rack) board. So then there is still gonna be a "most common" length - for the "most common" surfer height! All he's asking is which size sells the most / fastest. A good question, since I know at least one builder whose awesome boards are not moving at the shop in this ailing economy.
I'd ask the shop what their clientele is buying. 6'2'' might be a little big for the ''average''. I do a lot of hpsb, and my most commonly ordered size is 6'0''.
5'11" seems to be the current popular length....if you were doing several, then I'd be doing a few around 5'11", 6'0", 6'1", 6'2"......with volumes to match the typical surfer for the boards...( 65- 80 kg's )....
