Motorized Fishing Surfboard / SUP combination

I have been thinking about using a Walmart yoga mat to make a sternum-rib pad.  What thickness is your mat?

Also considering a camping, ground mat for increased thickness.

Clark fish blank spec sheet…

My boat is a Mako 224.  That’s where my screen name comes from.  With the shit economy, my house getting wrecked in Sandy and 3 kids that need braces the boat is on dry ground for the forseeable future.  I may sell it.

Thanks for reproducing that, John - that’s exactly the Clark blank I was referencing. They were taking their 13’1" Pan Am sailboard blank, splitting it, adding ~10" center piece, and gluing it up with two sticks. Small outboard would go in a well cut a couple of feet up in the “board”.

And mako, microskiffs.com is exactly where I would have sent you to get ideas for a small boat. I don’t think you need to do any plywood stringers; if you do a sandwich hull and cap it the whole structure gets plenty rigid. Keeping the weight under 200lbs is critical for draft and power reasons, at least the way we use those boats down here.

I made this around the time of your first board I remember that thread well. Mine paddled like shit but fit in my truck at 8’ × 46" × 6" and hauled asswith a 12v ttrolling motor. I only made 3 and got overit but it poled so sweet.

Stoneburner: My Mat is 5/8 thick.

Dup!

Thanks.

That board is really sweet! Man, it’s going to be floating around in my head for a while!

Question, does your board have a stringer? What size is it if you don’t mind me asking?

Has anyone given any thought to a Catamaran style board? I have started one 12 foot long. Cat would be faster to paddle or poll. also with float on the outside a more stable platform. Think of a Craig Cat boat smaller and with more open deck space. It could be powered with a electric trolling motor 34 wide a built in cooler seat combo. I have a Fishing kayak with an outrigger set up. Standing in a small open cockpit is still tricky. I started mine a while back but once again someone called the HOA on me. So project is on hold. I really need to find a place to work around here.

Mako Nice boat.  But I know how bad things are up that way. I have family in The Atlantic City area with so many casinos closing things aren’t looking good.

Aloha…Uncle D…How heavy is your finished fishboard sans the motor ? …Made quite a few (6) w the old clark foam blank back in the day…then went EPS sandwich construction…now…we just bring um in from China ready to go…p.s. I have for sale an extra Nissan (Tohatsu) 3.5 two stroke motor sitting around for any serious fishboard enthusiast…

ARTZ: BB30 (Charlie) is considering building one.  He wants to make one so the hauls can come apart for easy transport. I think it makes sense.  I wanted to make one more like a SUP so I can stand up and paddle…Go figure!

FLCCT: about 80 lbs.  I glassed it heavy.

Cat hulls work great, just need to keep it simple.
