moving a fin box

i stupidly ignored advice on where to place a fin box, now i need to remove the fin box, intact, and place it closer to the tail. how would you suggest doing this in a method that would keep the box and board intact as much as possible?

Got a picture? It’s going to be a difficult job. You should be able to dremmel around the box and then slip a piece of fuse wire under it and pull it back and forth to cut the foam underneath. When you work out where it’s going the waste from the new installation should fit the void from where it used to be.

Hicksy

needs to be moved about 6" back.

DOH!!!

Six inches is gonna be tough.

Cut the glass around the top.

Take a thin blade, and cut around the box on four sides. Twist the box side to side, it oughta come out.

Take the resin that was adjacent to the box out of the foam. Saves weight.

Route the new hole, sit the box in place.

At this point it would be worth setting a coupla pieces of short stringer in front of (or behind the) box where the hole is, so that the wood will make contact from top to bottom glass. Fill the rest of the hole with foam blocks, and light cabosil. Glass over the box lip, GTG.

i have to say, taking this fin box out was quite a job, but it turned out even better than before

blakestah, just to let you know, the system works 100 times better now. i can actually bottom turnt he board with confidence that it wount spin out.
