MR Retro Twin

Jim, you need to “unquote”

have ressurected my square many times, rust never sleeps and leaves stains when you lay da fins.

Steel wool, WD40 and some elbow grease, leave no oil…

Look into the shapers square! me was skeptical at first, wish they were around in my day, really saves on filping da square and getting dead center 2X for every outline measurement X 3 = 6 vs. 3  and on the money.

me’ll never go back!!!

I liked watching the Terry Martin shaping video. He just uses a 12 foot stanley tape measure. No squares

Mr. Martin ?

Legend and master of the craft.

Even w/ 3, 4, 5 once to the PP he’d blow us mortal’s away.

Alright…yeah, I’ll order one. Gotta order a few things…

that is a good vid -cleanlines! He was so smooth w pp!

Rust? They make aluminum framing squares. Those don’t rust and they’re lighter than the steel ones. So, if you’re the clumsy type and prone to dropping things it won’t leave as severe a dent in the blank when it slips from your fingers.

My comment about the wooden yardstick was because you can’t rely on those to be dead straight.

true. We used a rectangular shapers square on my Fish - I borrowed -rooster’s. Normally I’d use the L square like you said- thanks. They work perfectly. Infact, it’s what I’ll be using for awile as I don’t yet have a “money tree”, and the square keeps things good n str8! The yard stick you can use at tail block corner forward to do your vee etc., near tail though… and you can check your foil on the stringer to check that out… I check most at 12 from tips, 24" from tips, and center for thickness. It works. Yrs ago I asked a great shaper about “what is foil”, what is volume… He was kind enough to share what he knows. I use the yard stick mainly as a back up system -along w calipers. I use calipers often ! And use them wherever. It evens out the tables so to speak. Whatever it takes to be more accurate helps in the end result. But like - Mcding points out: envisioning your board inside the blank, and wittling away the foam will get you there. Good stuff! The plan now is to make me a logo for my board’s, get the fins, pigments to color the resin and take it from there. Then build another, and another. I plan to hand draw a template in the next weeks for a psb, I got a long board template, but I am working on making about 3-4 templates so I can keep at it. It all depends on what I can swing $ wise. Mcding I think is going to sell me a few blanks so depending on what I get will be a deciding factor as to what I’ll build. THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE! And have fun shaping! -JIM
