Brother wants me to shape a Merrick MSFG2. Got a good look at one today, measured all except for the rocker. Only so much I can get away with in the local shop, thought I’d be pushing it if I whipped out a 8’ straitedge.
Just trying to figure out what blank to use. He wants his to come out @ 7’, I’m trying to convince him he should go shorter, lot of foam in those boards. He’s a diehard logger though and won’t be swayed. From Clark’s catalogue it looks like the 7’3" (phil becker) natural rocker is a close match. Don’t know if I like the crowned deck and bottom though. Also thought a cut down 7’9"E might fit the bill as well. Any comments or recommendations out there?
I’m guessing my brother is 5’11 and about 170-180. Pretty experienced, 33 years old and been surfing since about 7. I’m 205lbs and have a similiar single fin 6’6" that works well.
dims I measured from a 6’6" were n:14 1/4", WP: 20 1/4" (1" fwd of center), T:14". 2 7/8" thick. Didn’t measure it but not much rocker, one gentle continuous curve.
Wow, PERFECT timing guys, I’ve been looking to shape this too.
Yea, I pulled up the image of it from merricks site and blew it up on illlustrator to a 5’10 size, and I got the width of 18.5" wide and 3" thick. doesnt make sense, cause if I blew it up to about 6’2 or somethign the wide point would be big, but the thickness would be even thicker. Do you think that for the 5’10 size, since its smaller the width shrinks too? I’ll post up the dimensions I got through illustrator on here.
This is gonna be my second board, and i’m gonna make this one out of the 14$ blank extruded foam this time. Let’s post up our progress and see how each of our boards come out guys.
