must glass

I just completed my best shape yet, and since it’s a triple stringer I’ve been inspired by Ghunt’s board most recently posted. I can do it, but my boards look like someone who has… well… only glassed three boards. Now I see the advantage of having a pro do the work. Problem for me is this, I don’t know of any glassers in my area. I live in NJ. Any Swaylockians know of a glasser in my region? I’ll go back to practicing on my next board, I promise. But this one is soooo niiiice, I don’t want to screw it up.

Check the archives under “Fly Surfboards”. They are located in South Jersey, Woodbine area. I believe they will glass shaped blanks. Good luck; Frank

C’mon man, roll up them sleeves and go at it. I know it sucks to watch a beautiful paint job get blemished with some air bubble or dry glass, but that’s how you learn best. My fourth glass was better than my third, and my fifth was twice as good as my fourth. I haven’t even finished sanding and glossing yet, and I’m ready to do a sixth, just because I want to see how good I can do on a little shorty with a 4 x 4 – seems like childs play after this 9 footer with 6 ounce. My laps are getting smoother, less dry spots, less air bubbles, and the whole process is going quicker – lighter. I think I’m almost starting to enjoy glassing…. But it’s a lot more fun when you don’t spend all your time (and money on 36 grit) fixing mistakes. Keep at it…

hellow fellow Jersey shaper! Just curious where do you call home? Iam in the Spring lake Manasquan area. As far as Glasing goes, the more you do it the better you get. Use the UV cure resin premixed from Fiberglass HI for your lam and hot coat. It won;t kick until you expose it to Sun, threfore yo can take as long as you need to get the lam done properly. The guy’s name from FLY is Paul Baymore, I don’t havve a number, but I do know that he is pretty cool and would most likely do a good glass job for you. e-mail me if you want to chat or got any questions

the last number that I have for Paul at Fly is (609) 861-7000. I’am also from NJ, E-mail me at , perhaps we can exchange ideas. Good luck.
