Just wanted to post a shot of my #001 and my very stoked son.
It's another grom board. The grom in question has old school taste so he got a triple stringer micro-longboard (5'10" x17.5"x 2.25") with nose and tail blocks, and leash loop. I used 2# EPS salvaged from the recycling bin at work with 1/4" redwood bender board stringers, and bass for contrast at nose and tail. Glassed heavy so it will survive his learning curve: 4oz +5oz s-glass bottom 4oz + 5oz + 5oz patch s-glass on the deck using RR epoxy.
It doesn't have enough volume to float his 205lb dad for a test ride, but he caught plenty of waves on its inaugural session at San Onofre a couple of weekends back.
Thanks so much for the answers to the questions I have asked, and even more for those I didn't have to ask because of answers already floating around. Lots of warts, but so much better than I could have done on my own without this site.
Looking forrward to #002,
Matt
Well done Matt, I’m stoked for you both, I bet you are proud of yourself.
Nice looking board.
Cool board.
unreal board. I know you must love your son…nose and tail blocks. Way to go Dad!!!
Job well done, especially being your first board and all the options including graphics, nose and tail blocks, and epoxy eps construction. Looks like a board that Eastern Pac posted a while back, called the Step Child model. I also had one, which was a lot of fun until I broke it on one of our local shallow sand bars.
What is it with these kids & flames?
I shaped my 7 y-o a nice little 5’5" and popped it in the bag with a nice balsa deck.
When I showed it to him, he was like, “uh ok thanks dad. Can you paint flames over that? I really want flames.”
I didn’t let my disappointment show. Ah hell, I wasn’t disappointed actually - just stoked that he had an opinion and was getting invested in his own first surfboard.
But I haven’t quite finished it … flames or not.
Yours is great and I love it. I’ll show it to my son and he’ll force me into action.
Nice work. Cute kid, too
