My first blank is in the garage...

Thanks for all the inspiration coming from this site.  Been waiting to do this for a while, so pretty excited about it.  Got a 9’4" EPS blank my friend and I are going to try to turn into a 9’ longboard.  Want to do a traditional noserider sort of thing with a lot of float.  Concave nose, flat to a v tail with less of a rocker?  Hopefully I’ve done my homework right.  I’ll be taking pics and posting throughout the process, and surely asking for some guidance along the way.

So far have it shaped, spackled, and a first color of paint down.  It has been a fun process, a little slower than expected but we’re doing all hand tools on this first one.

Right on man, hope you have fun on it.

Well, as you can see in the photo, I am trying to do a balsa tail block at the end.  I stained it with minwax stain… now I’m wondering if it will interfere with the epoxy.  It’s been about 4 days and still feels a little wet.  Anyone have experience with this?

Hey  NaCl_H20,when trying new things it is good to do a test using scrap materials, doing tests has saved me from many disasters.

Ok, so we finished the paint job minus the pinline (going to do that before hot coat).  Then we got the lamination done bottom and top.  Did a 6 oz bottom and 6oz top with 6oz deck patch.  I thought for a first glass job it came out really great.  So happy I did a few test pieces before to get a feel for things.  In my opinion the hardest part was saturating the rails on the deck with two layers of cloth.  Only things left to do now is set the leash plug and fin box, hot coat and gloss coat.  Come on new board!

very nice first board, looking forward to finished / beach pics!

Just finished the gloss coat on the top today.  Camera just died after one pic, more to come after it is totally done tomorrow.  I recall reading somewhere that epoxy boards have to sit for a week after they are finished to completely cure before riding them… any truth to that?  I used surf source 2000 epoxy.  Cannot wait to get this thing in the water!
