My fish shape - need some input please

Hi guys/gals. I have been reading the forums for a while, but this is the first time I’ve posted. Did some research here and there but would like some thoughts from experienced shapers.

I surf the river up here in Alberta and decided to make a board. I am looking to go for a fairly wide/thick fish shape as this seems to work the best for the rivers. Also looking for something that would surf moderately alright in small ocean break as well.

so far here is what I have.

5’11" Length

About 2.75" thick

4.5" nose rocker, 2.3" tail rocker

Any thoughts would be good, thanks

Planning to glass finboxes for a thruster setup but most likely will only be using the outside fins.

I have read on here “do what looks good, anything will surf” but when it comes down to it I am a bit of a techy and would like to know what makes a good fish… width and rocker wise.

cheers

If you are going for something fishy, I’d suggest nose rocker in the 3.5" 3.75" range. I’d also drop the tail to somewhere around 1.75 - 2". Maybe widen up your nose outline a bit as well.

Seems to go pretty good for me.

Have fun.

maybe even go with a swallow tail if you are looking for a retro-type fish.

Thank you for the advice thus far. My next question would be… Where should the widest point of the board be ? in front or behind center ?

I am assuming distance from center changes typically from style of board… So what should I be looking to do.

thanks again.

I’d put the wide point forward. the rocker appex should be under the wide point.
