So… can we hate you now?
Maybe we need to worry…
See that big scary sewage pipe in the foreground?
Hey Josh,
I’ve surfed your home break quite a bit in the 90’s. Always had a blast, can get very punchy.
My ex-gf’s mother would get us a holiday rental right on the sand, just walk out and surf.
Also got great Copa’s and other spots, and some secluded spots just north. I would go to the
shops there were you park “tail-first” (we don’t have that in the States) and get a meat pie
with sauce at the bakery.
Don’t know how built-up it got, but my guess is that you are very lucky to live there…
Yeah, I miss the pie and sauce.
Hi Plusone!
if your ever in Avoca again we can go for a surf. I love the pies also.
Cheers mate!
… That pipe is a storm water let off not a sewarage pipe. it doesnt effect health in anyway.
Cheers everyone!
PS…you can hate me if you like.
I know I hate Josh now. Why worry about a little PuPe in the water? Mike
Hi Josh ,
Awesome waves.
"… That pipe is a storm water let off not a sewarage pipe. it doesnt effect health in anyway. "
Sorry to RAIN on your thread but URBAN RUN OFF is the biggest pollution problem on all beaches in Southern California.
What’s up stream? …
You are right …it’s not a sewage pipe but you would be surprised what can flow through a storm water drain.
I do not surf after a rain no matter how good the waves are. Eyes , nose , ears, mouth ,open wounds ect…
Cheers Stingray!
The storm water rarely gets to the ocean due to the rocks and rock pool also. I risk it though, haha.
Josh… you scored! When was that pic taken? It is my civic duty to let everyone else know that it is not often, in fact, extremely rare, that you will only find one person out at the point when it is breaking. However, it also looks like it may be just before dark so that may be the reason for the lack of crew.

a few months back an hour and a half before dark.
looks like an invitation to me. do you have a comfortable couch?
just kidding. nice wave though.
Here’s a pic of my fave break. There was another thread of people posting pic’s of their home breaks, but i’ll be dammed if i can remember it!. As you can see, its not a great day for waves!!. By the way this is MM beach, NSW. I think it’s called MM beach because its opposite a factory called metal manufacturers, and is kind of in an industrial area. Would be good if you worked across the road!!
Hey Mark,
that’s not Woolongong/Kembla is it? the black/white photos throwing me off a bit, but it looks similar, can’t remember the island there, Windang I think.
Probably wrong, (If it is, you’re holding out on us, heaps good surf there)…
George
That remind me of a spot where I used to live named ‘pisserenna’(urinal in english) because of the (now defunct) sewer pipe coming out there. I miss that place!
regards,
Håvard
I live down near Wollongong as well. Yep, MM Beach is just around the corner from Port Kembla Beach. Gets some nice waves for longboards there. It’s amazing how many people are still in their steamers down here at the moment. Have to admit, I am still in my short john.
Nice shot though, and yeah they are two of the five islands.
Plus one you are right, i live about 20 mins south of wollongong. I’ve really only ever surfed in this general area ( ive been surfing just over 12 months now ), but the waves seem to be good for me!. Havent surfed windang island, it only seems to get good waves when its over 6’, but im definately no expert, and am not good at surfing waves bigger than a bit overhead ( faces ). When i think about it, just 20 mins north or south of my place, there are probably 20 beaches i could surf. I guess i am lucky, as there are beaches literally 1000’s of kilometres either way from my house, from the gold coast to victoria, if you’re a keen driver hahaha.
Haha nice name bluebottle, hope we dont get many this year, they are a pain mate!. I usually surf mm, port, or jones, or mystics. Depends what the waves are like i suppose. Towradgi hey?, small world.
Cheers
