My Home Depot board progress......

making some progress on my EPS board from home depot. i made some crude rocker templates and hotwire cut my blank today out of the block of glued sheets. it’s a fun process.

Looks pretty good so far. What are the diminsions going to be?

-btw …How much is that eps per sheet?

the dimensions are gonna be around 6’1 x 18 1/8, 10 3/4 nose, 13 1/2 tail.

the eps sheets i got are made by a company called Polar Central or something like that, and an 8’x2’x2" sheet was around 9 or 10 bucks i believe.

perimeter stringer or center?

i dont plan on using a stringer, still trying to decide what the best glassing dimensions would be. any suggestions?

this search brings up some info.

I used 6-6-8 on top and 6-6 on the bottom of the same stuff on a board I made my sister and it came our plenty strong I only used the 8 because I ran out of 6 I think it would be fine with another layer of 6, the bottom is a little soft so I don’t think you would want to use 2x6oz for the deck. The only problem I ran into with the board was not installing a vent plug, thinking it would be fine for the winter and I would put one in in the summer. Needless to say, it got left in the car and huge delam, so make sure you put that vent plug in.

so you’re saying that 2x6oz is ok for the bottom, but too soft for the deck?

one thing im not really too clear on is vent plugs. i’ve heard that they are necessary for anything less than 2#, but im not really sure how they work, and how to make/install one. and are they used to vent out pressure? or moisture if you get a ding?

do a search in the archives ive seen it in there with photos. great job by the way

thanks.

the hotwire cuts through the EPS like BUTTER! haha. it came out nice and smooth. i only wish i had made my templates more accurate. i think it would end up saving more time in the end. but the eps is so easy to shape i think i’ll be able to get it nice and clean eventually.
