My most recent build

I figured that I hadn’t posted a board in a while so I’d better get on the ball. I’ve been working on single fin noseriders so naturally I’ve been pestering Benny1 to get the scoop. This board is 9’5", 22.5 inches wide, 3.5" nose rocker & 4.5 tail rocker. The board is still balsa skins and rails, but I decided to do my first attempt at a resin swirl. It was a little tricky to do with the way I build my boards, but I pretty happy with how it turned out. As always, the next one will be much better.

Lookin’ good, Dan. Wide point behind center a few inches? Is your tail rocker continuous from the middle or does it accelerate in curve towards the end?

Pintail feels smoooooth after those square thrusters, I bet

Do I get to see it in a couple weeks?

Thanks! The rocker accelerates in the final two feet from the tail. This board really fits my style of surfing. Its definitely the board I’ll be bring up, but I might also bring up my last Bert Board. Its always fun to watch Christian (cj3) rip on it (although it makes me feel a little inferior  ).

So you can nose ride AND whip this thing around? Cool. I really would be intrigued to see how the flex would affect the noseriding.

I’ve been playing around with the 2 lb stuff and wasn’t very happy with it. I was falling a lot and the board wasn’t under my feet. This board feels natural and does what you want it to. I’m hoping to get some wave this weekend that will give me a better test (so far I’ve been riding some pretty small stuff).

DanB,

Nice board. Did I meet you at the Longboards.net San-O thing? I think so.

How much does a compsand like that weigh. I don’t follow the compsand threads that close, so I don’t really have any idea what they weigh.

Thanks

Yes, I was there with my first attempt at building a singlefin (notice that board isn’t pictured  ). That was a fun weekend wasn’t it. Its my second time going, and I’m sure to be there next year. With the 2 lb foam (and slightly chunkyer) the board came in at 16 lbs, and this board came in at 12.5 lbs. I’m really not aiming for lite the way I use to, but I don’t think I like heavy boards.

What…excuse me (fingere twisting in ear as if I’ve got something wrong with my hearing), I must be confused or something. Did you just tell me that the board pictured, being 9’5" long and 22.5" wide, weighs 12.5 lbs.? (now I’m shaking my head as if that will reorganize my brain). What weight of foam?

Really? 12.5 lbs? Impressive.

very nice dan

hopefully ill have a few finished ones to show soon to

its a bummer when you only got a few hours to go

but cant find the time!

Thanks for the compliment! This is actually a lot heavier than I’ve built in the past. I’ve gotten them down to 9.5 lbs, but my skills are not such that it is substainable. This board has 1 and 2 lb foam. Its my first one that I actually signed (meaning I wouldn’t be sad if it lived on).

Paul, I feel you’re pain. I rip through the first 2/3rds of the board then I seem to come to a screeching halt. Someday I’ll get the systems such that its smooth sailing, but then I’ll wake up

A true beauty.

The sand has filled in real nice up my way. You should get a good feel for it when you visit. We may need to do a swirl when you are up. My 5 y/o is getting a 6’ balsa compsand for X-mas and he thinks the plain balsa is boring.

Christian

My 8-yr old is critiquing his halfway-finished compsand as well. “The wood is ok, dad, but I really want flames.”

Kids all love the flames  and an almost universal boredom with balsa. I’m planning to make my son a Doho special for this summer - his only requirement is that it must be white. Christian, I have a few ideas on how to improve the resin swirl so it retains less resin but still is clean.

Yeah, my brother is the same way about the balsa- “Just don’t do any of that balsa hippie sh*t on my next board!” he says… It just got finished yesterday, I’ll post some pics on this thread tonight. -Carl

I’m looking forward to seeing it!

Here you go Dan- firewire style. -Carl

Very nice!

Carl, you & Christian (cj3) really need to get together…he’s making some great stuff & would get to the next level from a quick tour like the one you gave me.

What else are you working on?

You know stuff like this just plain makes me sick…

It is truly amazing what you John, Jeff, Ben, Christian, Blane, Dennis and Bud have achieved in such a short time.

In trying to get things back togethor again at home and work I fallen so far behind all you guys…

Makes me want to drive down and get some Lowes sheets tonight or some more Marko blanks from Jim or CMP and bag some wood. But there’s just so much to clean up pack up and get rid of first before we start making a mess again.

And of course all theres all those christmas veneering projects I need to finish again.

envious envious envious

thats all I can say

Between this post and seeing what Chandler can do with his arms tied behind his back makes you want to just give it up altogethor…

You’ve really come one heck of a long way over the last couple of years and I’m impressed beyond words…

Best of all you all are teaching me so much with each new project…

congrats…

Very Nice Carl! You also seem to have a little Sugar (oops, I meant Creme) artistic thing going on). Is that corecell with balsa rails?

Bernie, thank you very much for the compliment! Unfortunately, the more that I build the further it seems that I have to go. This is the first board I’ve built that isn’t destined to be cut up and thrown in the waste.

I think I’ve seen spots on Carl’s boards since a while before Créme or Sugar…

Maybe his are the Coffee.

No, not Ward. :stuck_out_tongue:
