I just thought I’d say hi to everyone on the Forum and show everyone my new 11’0"x23x3 5/8 Skip Frye Eagle. It’s used but it has been extensively repaired and vacuum packed to seal it. You can barely tell it was shaped in 1986. It’s got a giant square tail which I prefer to the Double Eagle’s pin… It’s a rougher turn but you get more responsiveness entering a turn. It’s nice and thick for glide and it has almost literally no rocker - it’s flat all the way from the nose to about 15 inches from the nose at which point it lifts a little bit. A similar board this size would have around six inches of nose rocker, while this one has only two inches. As a result, trimming noserides are impossible but it does stalling noserides like no other board. It’s got a single fin box. It glides forever and trims at incredible speed but doesn’t do much else. It’s a no-compromise glider, flat all the way through the nose and middle with a tiny vee in the tail. It’s got two balsa stringers and one redwood with blood-red rails. It only turns if you sink the tail and bring the nose a meter into the air and pivot around the fin, otherwise, forget about it. Good angled-takeoff skill necessary. It paddles extremely fast but takes a long time to get going. It’s a perfect point or reef-shooter for any size wave.[img_assist|nid=1053016|title=11 foot Skip glider|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=551|height=503][img_assist|nid=1053015|title=11'0"x23x3 5/8 Skip Frye Eagle|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=550|height=507] It’ll connect sections that no other board will make. It has the purest ride of any board I’ve ever ridden. It’s the ultimate glide.
nice board - thanks for the detailed ride report, also. info like that is very valuable to me! Sometimes I surf very crowded malibu, and getting in early and going fast through sections is about the only thing that counts - well that, and looking as surly as possible LOL!
Huckleberry,
If one were so inclined to surf Malibu, this would be the board to do it. Super fast, super smooth, super glide. This board is the best way to maximize the length of your ride! The super-flat rocker and extra thickness allows you to get in way before the wave even thinks about breaking and it’s got so much momentum. I was surfing once when the waves were coming in pairs, really close together. I took the first wave of a set, kicked out and found myself riding the wave behind it! The board maintained it’s speed so well that I caught a wave without paddling - standing up! The added weight actually helps it cut through sections better. And I’ll guarantee that when you come soul-arching through the inside section on a Skip Frye, you’ll look surly enough, anyway.
