I have a single fin board I never use and would like to experiment with the fin setup. Any ideas on changing this to a 2,3,4,5 or whatevever fin setup.
I hope the picture shows up with the measurements.

Hmm…
Old school swallow single, you might add two sides around 6" tall leading edge about 13" from tip of swallow.
If you use smaller sides, you’d need a small maybe 4.5" trailer.
You can quad it up, with trailing edge of front fin around 12" from tip of tail.
I’m not much for more than 4 thos, so you need advice from someone else for that.
hi Oscar !!
I love experimenting as much as the next guy . [maybe even more !]
but …
It’s a single fin , you haven’t used much ?
…why ?
cheers mate !
ben
thrusters go really well. Have you ridden them mostly ? Maybe a single fin might be harder to ride after riding mostly thrusters ?
Cecil
Hey Lee
Thanks for suggestions. I like the idea of smaller sides and a trailer. The only problem with this is the trailer seems to far back. One thing about this board, even though it has not been used for awhile, I do not want to destroy the integrity of the single fin box. Do you think I can get away with a 2+1 using the single fin box for the trailer as far as it will go? The quad setup peaks my interest, I’ve never ridden a quad or a twin. Just not sure I have enough tail footage to fit in a quad, maybe a twin.
I changed my drawing. Don’t think I’m trying all of these fins at once, just trying to imagine.

I know, I know. But I have another board very similar except it is 6"-10". Had it made after I gain a few love pounds and felt the 6’-5" was to small. In last few years I’ve lost weight and thought I would give this board a try. Just wanted to spice it up alittle. Beside, I can’t help wanting to always make changes for the fun of it. Both boards are about 20 and 25 years old.
Oscar
Cecil,
I do ride a thruster was in awhile when there is nothing but shore break. Otherwise my thruster is to small (6’-2") to float me and I’m to old paddle the thing. It’s depressing when the little groms take 3 waves while I’m still trying to get out.
Oscar
Can’t you just set the trailer forwards in that longbox? Everything works, and you are looking to experiment, so the sky’s the limit.
Really good ding… I once put the trailer fin in backwards, because mainly the box was set waaay back on the tail of the board. It actually worked really well, but not a whole lotta drive out of bottom turns, it just flicked right up to and behind my normal direction of desired travel!
hi again Oscar !!
the reason I asked is [and this is just me , okay?] …
Personally , I would leave it as a single fin , unless it is in really bad condition [in which case , if it is thick , I would strip it , thin it , re-rocker it , and re-glass it , so you have a “better” board to use for multi fins] .
I would tend to make a quiver of different fins for it first , as a single fin , and ride it for quite a while , to “exhaust” the possibilities of single fin surfing , single FIN templates , shape , thickness , depth , base and rake measurements and …flex.
What bottom does the board have ?
what are the rails like ?
…do you have a profile view , showing the rocker , please ?
…I would love to see PHOTOS of both your single fins , if you have any shots , please , mate ? cheers !!
Not surprisingly , I have a HEAP of single fin templates , too …that was / is going to be a future thread, all going well …but , if you want to see any , to make your own to ride in that fin box , please let me know , and I’d be happy to send you some …
ben
…because that fin box is so far forward , it will, in my opinion , work okay/ well as a single fin …depending on what sort of job they did on the rails , foil , rocker , and bottom , of course ! [some of those early '70s boards were DOGS to ride !! [they were the ones I’ve stripped and reshaped , mostly !]
Which came first? Ben or the single fin?
