My Stingray.....

Reposted from Aqua’s Journal…

Sorry Guys getting the hang of the site… been gone a while, my how things have changed…

Journal,Chipfish & Aqua,

Finally finished my Stingray…travels took me away from the racks but 14 months later…stoked to be shaping, glassing, sanding & surfing on the Stingray…She’s definitely a head turner…

She’s a bit different than Aqua’s … rougher for sure… the hippie cousin…

6’4" 17 x 21 x 17 x 2.5…

template i got was a bit wider than that…wanted to pull it in a little…

Flat to single to deep double concaves out the tail like my Bonzer… lotsa lift in the tail, as You go to get up you jam the tail down and off she goes / Deck has a concave too that acts as a gas pedal… more leverage rail to rail. No Cant in the side fin boxes…

Really likes cutbacks. the side pins bite in and whip the nose around assisting the sidebites… test runs were in head high beach break…clean but not too consistent for lab test tuning. Started out with FT1 futures with a small center in the bahne… too stiff. Switched to futures SB1’s in the sides and a futures 7" cutaway… I enjoyed that setup a bit more. The Deep tail concaves really lift the tail and push the nose… maybe should have put in a deeper single concave under the front foot. I compensated by really moving back and it directs me to be more of a rear foot surfer and to narrow my stance like chip was recommending i do with my ‘SOS’ board. rear foot on the hump about 4-6" from the leash loop…

Not as techy as aqua’s but kept it in line by putting in a carbon deck patch and wrapping the pins in carbon along the rails… hull 6 oz K with 6 oz fin patch, deck 6 oz carbon with 4 oz wrap… glass leash loop.

I love abstracts… hard to make a board without them now… the swirl over the carbon looks awesome. blue over black carbon… hmmmm!

Experimented a bit but i really enjoy the look and outcome…

The side pins were a pain in the Rear to glass!!!

Look forward to tuning the design, thinkin of making a longboard with similar tail… will tell you more in a bit… look forward to Chipfish61 and Aqua’s feedback… Any Q’s?

Take it easy…

-Zosurf.

thanks for the report and shots mate !

Have you had a chance to ride it as a single fin yet ? if so , how did you like it ?

it looks like it needs me [ or maybe THIS guy ?!] , to make a hemp fin for it , though …

cheers

ben

Nope, Haven’t ridden it as a single… any suggestions?

I have a 7" cutaway, 7.5" cutaway, 7.5" TK Flex and a 7.75" swoop ( Lotsa RAKE!!)

With the deep concaves, i wonder what would be best a lil larger single or could I get away with smaller??? Say…5"??? I want to try it with some smaller fins for kicks…

Come on Ben!!! Whata ya got for me…

I’m glad I put the bahne in because i wasn’t that stoked on it as a twin… Like I said… I need more constant / consistent surf. point vs. beach break… know what I mean?

g’day Paul !

I’m pretty conservative …

…when it comes to single fins !

But , you might get an idea or two off this , a recent thread. Hope this helps ?
