My time in West Oz

G’day everyone!

I had a great time in West Oz. I cant be thankfull enough to all the great swaylockers i met over there.

I started off in Rottnest and only really got to surf one wave, it was a nice left and right sand bar along way off thomson bay braking towards Perth (about 18k away i think). I got a lift to the break when i was paddling out due to some kind bodyboarders in a zodiac. (THAT made me feel like i was going on a real surf adventure!)

I headed off to Margret River, Gracetown and Yallingup. The wind was howling onshore the whole time but i managed to see all the breaks and surf smiths/supertubes twice.

On the way back to Perth I stopped into a surf shop at Mandurah (pronounced Maaanduurah!, I was informed.) I got a Sunova 6’3" x 19" 2 3/8" balsa thruster and bi gingo i was stoked!

When I got to Perth I met up with Chipfish and Sandgroper for a GREAT morning surf which was definatly one of the highlights of the trip. Great meeting you guys!!

Ben is a good surfer and a great mate as is Ian who managed to pull into perhaps the “wave of the century” as Ben and I reffered to it as.

I then got to ride some nice waves on my sunova

I also got to meet up with Pascal (popeye) who is a nice guy and surfs good too. Later on that day I went around to Hixies who was a great guy who makes a nice barbique and some very cool inventions! thanks for having me round Grant! i Enjoyed it a lot.

I didn’t get to meet Lavz due to University commitments but next time you see him say G’day to him for me.

The next day I went around to Ben’s who very kindley fixed a little ding in the back fin for me and showed me his creations. thanks buddy that was great!

It was great meeting everyone and i’m a very happy lad indeed. Next time i’m over i hope to surf with you all again and even more future swaylockers too.

if your ever in Avoca, be sure to drop by.

Cheers,

Josh.

This was my favouritte shot from the whole trip, I know i’m kooking it a little but I sure as hell was having a great time! its a great shot of Scarborough i reckon, its got the waves, observation city and the shoreline which i have such good memories of.

Thanks for taking all the photos chipper! the came out great i reckon especially considering you had the flu and it was my second surf on the board. your a great water photographer indeed.

Catchya all for now.

" i’m a very happy lad indeed"

this really stood out .

I don’t know if you are ALWAYS this happy Josh , or if it was holiday stoke,

but I still can’t believe that onshore we paddled out in yesterday ???!!!

… and that was classic , that comment of yours “I don’t think you’ll be getting any water shots today !” you’re not wrong !!

It was great to also meet your mum , your dad , and your sister .

Seems like a happy family you belong to , good to see mate !

Thank you and Chris [josh’s mum] for the unreal book , too … very kind of you guys .

As I look out the window now , prior to my mad dash to the department of social scrutiny , it is STILL howling onshore …

You REALLY scored with sunday , monday , and tuesday here , I reckon , Josh !

And , thanks to “sandgroper” [Ian] for talking me through [over the telephone] how to burn you a dvd copy of the watershots …glad to see it WORKED . [THANKS , ‘Eno’ !]

so glad you enjoyed your stay Josh , and survived the shock of seeing hicksy's monster truck skateboard !

   cheers mate !

Rottnest again.

Josh, I’ve been “visiting” Rottnest Isl. at Google Maps, and it seems they think about us Googlemap users since they have a sign made with plants in the center of the island, whre you can read “ROTTNEST” from space.

Try it.

For non OZzies: Rottnest is off shore Perth, AU.
