my vacuum crushed my eps!

I bananna’d a blank/bottom skin a few months ago. It was the first vac after a break of a couple of months, and I got a bad case of the stupids… forgot to lower the pressure setting on my pump after evacuating all the air… Then went surfing.

Came back two hours later, the epoxy was set, the blank was about an inch thick, and had about 12 inches of rocker.

That’s the only time I’ve ever really lost my patience while making surfboards. Usually I’ll just walk away for a while if I start getting frustrated with something. Not this time. It was two days after I had quit smoking (still cig free!), and I just totally snapped. Lost it. Saw red. I took after that blank with my feet and fists and didn’t quit till it all fit in the trash can. Not my proudest moment. But it did teach me a good lesson about over-sucking 1 lb eps… you really can suck too much.

here’s some pics. in case you’re wondering, i did one rail band with my hotwire before bagging while my foam was still flat. was planning balsa rails, so one rail band was probably going to be enough…
