Damn good stuff gents.

(why dont we have more guessing contests?)

Keep the wacky stuff coming…

but for you serious contest contendors,

here’s some hints:

E.B.T.C.

or

E.S.C.

its a dual-result tool and does not apply to ‘conventional’ surfboard construction;

theres nothing to see on the other side NJ, just three parts as you can plainly see. The hooks allow adjustability.

There is a genuine nice sur-prize for the weener.

(Im surprised no one has guessed - very ackward and inefficient keys hanger  )

Is it for slicing thin sheets off a block of eps?

eps slice cutter?

I say you name it Robert or Sally (can’t tell the sex by the picture)

3 handled moss covered family gredunza. Without the moss of course. And the third handle.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Congradulations Muhleder!

You will receive your sur-prize shortly.

(those last few responses where hell funny!)

But what is E.B.T.C.?

Here’s the scoop:

I bought a 6’6 Marko blank and wanted a finish thickness of 2.25 but that sucker is 3.1 thick!

Holy cow, thats a lot of mowin with the planer…I could see the sad look on my puny little shop vac.

I thought ok I’ll just hotwire the thickness from 3.1 to 2.5 and proceed as normal.

But I didnt have any HW prolife cutting templates to match and had no intention of making some, not to mention sticking them on the sides of the blank.

So I though for a minute and BINGO…EPS BLANK THICKNESS CUTTER!

or as Muhleder guessed EPS SHEET CUTTER (yeah he was close enough this isnt Jeapordy right). You can make a sheet of eps or xps without having to use hw side templates. This tool took about 5 minutes to dream up and make…just one of those lucky “eureka” moments.

Just adjust the hooks to the desired depth (screw them in or out), craddle your harp wire in the hooks and press start. You can hook up your pull horses to the bar (lillibel!) or just use one of your two hands, the other holds the harp.

So your probably asking “what about the blank’s wood stringer…you cant hw that”

You gotta cut it out before HW’g…

a router doesnt work good…

how would YOU cut the stringer?

Nice!

I’d cut the stringer with a skillsaw, actually cut the foam along both sides of it, and then reverse the pieces when I glued it back up so the ‘factory’ edges from the original outsides met in the middle. That way, if my cuts weren’t perfect, it wouldn’t matter.

Too bad. I thought I’d with the Engineer Cooking one. Aren’t you a recovered engineer?

Hey I made one like yours with ukulele tuning gears (could be from a guitar too). I attached them to a 6" long piece of wood then I clamped them to 2x2 stick that goes under the flat sheet of wood the foam sits on. I can adjust the height I want from 1/8" up to 6".

I use a heavier guage wire and I pull it pretty tight with the gears to keep the cut as clean and even thickness as possible. I use an old Variac to get it nice and hot. Cuts like a hot knife though soft butter.

I have photos somewhere, I’ll post some.

I would use a circular saw. Just set the depth and you’re ready to go!

We don’t use stringers down the center of our boards. The closest we come to that is a sheet of bamboo placed horizontally between 2 layers of EPS. We do solid rails now, so we’re doing perimeter stringers.

The heavier Marko foam doesn’t need a stringer for short boards. 1 layer of 6 oz on bottom and 2 layers of 6 oz glass on top should be plenty strong.

Exactly werepat. Works great.

SC, I figured that tool could be easily upgraded…the tuning keys are cool.

Cheers
