Need a logo for a new design

Any ideas on a logo for a board called “The Enigma”? We were thinking something like an Escher type design like:

or

with the word enigma through the middle.

To help, the board is named enigma because of the definition: hard to describe/puzzle.

The board was built using a blank turned backwards. The nose is a wing nose. The tail is a steptail/scoop tail. The bottom has channels running past the fin like an old DaCat.

Colors should be kept to no more than 4 due to screen printing costs.

Thanks,

Troy

Anyone come up with something we can use we will throw in some Austin paraphernalia for your trouble.

i like the M.C. Escher idea (i really dig his work).

anyhow, i’d suggest using “Bond of Union”, and writing one letter in the most prominent bubbles in the foreground such that it spells “E N I G M A”. i find that image to be very enigmatic, and because it’s a pencil drawing, doesn’t carry with it the expense of screening in color (unless you wanted to write the letters in color…which, for the sake of making it stand out in front of the drawing, would probably make for much better presentation).

alternatively, “Drawing Hands” is always a favorite. if i were to use that image, i’d modify it such that the word “ENIGMA” appears on each cuff, positioned such that it appears as if it had just been drawn on by the pencil.

if you like either of those ideas, let me know and i’d be happy to have one of my graphic design gurus whip up a sample.

Hey Brandon,

One idea that I had was using Escher’s morphing technique and have whales (since it sort of has a whale tail) morph into some bird (because it has the winged nose) and have the word enigma in the middle. I want to make sure I don’t steal anything from Escher we just want to use him as our inspiration! I like the ideas but would like to have some color. We need to catch the eye of the public

Or how about, let me ride your custom boards for the next year or two - say, no more than a dozen custom boards for me, and I’ll work on a logo for you after I decide if I like them.

Logo design is work as is surfboard creation. Asking for someone’s hard work for some of your “paraphrenalia” is the same as the above. Offer something more substantial.

Hi Troy, what about using Ingres’s “Oedipus and the Sphinx” or any other sphinx printing free of rights and putting the “enigma” lettering of your choice on it? Of course, it’s quite different from Escher, but just an idea…

My contribution.

100% custom made.

Just 2 colors.

Pcinsc,

Didn’t mean to insult you by offering so little. Usually at Swaylock’s people exchange ideas freely but I figured I throw in some our new shirts that we just had screen printed. I create most of all our designs but was running through a dry spell and needed some input to get the juices flowing.

Balsa,

Love the old, old school designs!

Niera,

I really like the idea. The main thing I would change would be the question mark because Tyler has the Riddler and that might be a little close but I definately like the back ground.

On a side note our first website was built by a friend of ours for a Big Gulp (For those of you who don’t know what that is it is a large fountain drink). So its not always about money or how much you can get sometimes you just help each other out.

Hi Troy, dont know the trademark implications of this but here is a jpeg of the WW2 Enigma Machine’s logo (more info here )…I actually hadnt even thought of this till I googled enigma but I like the twist that you created the Enigma so that those ‘in the know’ understand but everyone else is clueless~ rather than just creating something that is a bit of an enigma. Mayble coupled with an image of a man walking with his head on backwards (backwards blank)…I was envisioning an 1800’s guy in a suit with a bowler hat and cane but cant draw…hopefullly you get the picture

Maybe a glyph of some sort? I found a few to inspire some creativity. Maybe I will work on something when I get home…

E. Nygma I say you go Mad scientist.

That one is a static image, but print it out and it’ll keep on moving …

WOW! Pierre B’s got my vote: A logo that moves. I’ve never seen that before. Doug

One precision : I’m not the author of this drawing, I found it on the web
