Ok now this is slightly off topic so I apologize but I’m hoping someone here can help me… My problem is that I hop to my feet and ride switch way to often. I’m a goofy footer. no question about it. Snowboard that way, wakeboard that way, kiteboard that way, etc, etc. Now after 12 yrs of surfing I’m realizing that its holding me back quite a bit. I get in the water about twice a week from march to Nov.(pretty much snowboard till march). Because of my renewed interest in shorter boards my problem seems to be amplified this year. Now I have to say that I’ve become pretty proficient surfing switch and rarely notice I’m surfing that way until the waves over but I’m always with my back to the wave, I’m just starting to become confused 1/2 way thru a wave cause I realize what I’m doing and I’m starting to have bad sessions on any shortboard I choose to ride because the later/deeper takeoff is more sensative to my problem. I’m hoping somebody out there has had this problem and can offer me a solution. Any help would be great!
In a loud voice, berate yourself verbally whenever you ride switch… Scream things like “denoms in my head, stop making me ride switch”. After which, snort a nosefull of seawater and make vile noises while spitting it back out.
As side benefit to these methods, you’ll also find less crowds around you.
Let me see if I understand. You can swithchfoot and its a problem? Because you always ride backside? I’ll trade you my hopelessly regular foot for your switchfoot. Mike
The only problem I see is that you are always backside. Most people try to switch to be frontside…you have some how reversed it? I think you just need to focus and think about how you will ride …before you drop in. Just keep repeating…frontside…frontside…frontside…peace and waves…
Yeah… I’m almost always riding backside OR riding frontside switch (Rare though). I know the problem is mental which means I’m screwed. Maybe a therapist could help. I feel awkward taking off going frontside for some reason. I took a day about a week ago and was forcing my self to takeoff frontside going left and I kept falling over backwards.
