Need an extra 2 inches....

Im planning to shape a mini simmons 5'8x22x2 and a bit....

Im resahping it from an old corkie paddle board I found in the gutter one afternoon i was out running. It measures 5'8x20x3.5, the rails are allready profiled so i will take the inch out of the bottom which will sharpen my bottom edge up. My problem is how to find the extra 2 inches...(this being lifes biggest dilema....)

Should I use a 2 inch balsa stringer or glue up a pair of stringers closer to the rails or use a foam stringer insert to get my width? At the end of the day it is going to be a glue up, just want to get away with little weight but strength.

in the theme of recycling - could I use the off cuts from when i slice the board down from 3 inchs to 2 to make a reasonable strong foam stringer by reinforcing it with cloth prior to glue up? say: half the board - cloth (2x60z) - 2 inch foam insert - cloth (2x6oz) - half board?

I’d glue up two thin stringers on the outside of a strip of foam, then glue that down the middle of my blank… a double stringer with foam in between.

Gotta admit, first thing that came to mind when I read this topic title was, "That's what she said!"

Anyway Bee, just get you some balsa or use your foam offcuts glued up with Gorilla Glue or some other PU glue and you're set, you shouldn't really need a stringer as long as your glassing's good.
