Need Color Glassing Opinions - Epoxy/ EPS/Tempra

I’ve done a bunch of tempra on EPS and like the results.  I want to do something again like the pic hopefully attached, only wrap it around the rail and on to the bottom instead of a full deck inlay.  I would only cover the deck a little and the bottom a little and hopefully fade it along the edges.  IOW, only a partial coloring of the deck and bottom.  You know the problem that presents.  I have some 1 oz cloth and I am thinking about covering the art work in that, then doing the lam normally.  An alternative might be to spray something over the color on the deck so it doesn’t smear while I lam the bottom and wrap the rails.

Anyone have a thought?  Anyone done similar?

I’m not sure how I did this but here is a bigger crappier picture.  I’d like to wrap this around the rails instead of a deck inlay as shown.

Easy,

Paint brush and a Posca pen.

No problem.

Add acrylic to the paint.

Or spray clear acrylic over paint job.

Clean laps. No messy laps and sanding issues.

Thanks Barry.  I’ll try a clear acrylic test and see if it will hold.  I used a foam brush dipped in black tempera for the frame lines.  I like the look.  Obviously done on the foam.

Awesome.

I like the stained glass look.

Did that some years ago.

I’ve seen a couple that Huck did as well.

Go for it.

Inspirational. Ha

Greg,

The only issue I see is the rail froth from the epoxy. I always have a hard time with dark rail colors with epoxy.  I usually keep the art work just like in the picture…I keep it off the rails.

Maybe the idea of lighter cloth is the way to go, but I certainly wouldn’t go the double 6 deck at once trick.

Use a roller for the rails to keep them clear (less bubbles).  The biggest challenge will be the froth.  The alternative is to glass w/ 6 oz glass, sand, paint the sanded glass, and only use the 1oz cloth + hotcoat to protect the art.  I would prob go that route.

Mondrian!

It also helps to go back right away with a back fill coat before the resin fully kicks so you can fully saturate the rail with the less aerated resin.

Good idea, FH. Also just remembered I have a heat gun which will help some.
